Tuscan Tradition and the Tyrrhenian Sea

Occupying the heart of a 12.5-hectare olive grove, this eco-responsible agricultural estate dominates a gentle rise in the agrarian Maremma region of Tuscany. Designed by Paris-based Studio Catoir, a husband-and-wife team whose interior design and furniture creations fill hotels worldwide (including collaborations at Intercontinental Hotels & Resorts, Marriott and Renaissance properties, and the Carlson Rezidor Group), the stately residence is flanked by classic cypress trees along its soaring, arched-windowed façade.

Exposed rafters and rugged beams cross the triple-height ceiling space. An oversized hearth gives all the right cozy farmhouse vibes. Classic, rosy Tuscan tiles cover the floor, and gigantic arching windows put the focus on the countryside undulating beyond. The villa's interiors fit the casual country home vibe, and the outdoor lounge areas are neatly manicured and panoramic. A sizeable swimming pool stretches below the estate, complemented by flowering rosemary, a primitive shade structure, loungers, and umbrellas.

Offering classic Tuscan estate allure, this tall agricultural outpost is a working olive oil production farm and grove, with thousands of olive trees reaching down the hills and valleys. The estate is also only minutes from the charming fishing village of Talamone in the protected Natural Park of the Maremma. Talamone occupies the southernmost end of the Uccellina mountain range on the Tyrrhenian Sea’s Silver Coast and is watched over by a fortress built in the 13th century, destroyed and abandoned for centuries, and ultimately rebuilt in the late 16th century. The town’s small harbor is a jewel of the region, with sandy beaches and piney forests and a bay that’s a favorite for recreational sailors as well as wind and kite surfers. The village is set on the border of a natural park that is itself part of a greater natural preserve known as Uccellina Park.

Farmhouses and agricultural estates dot the rolling hillsides outside of the town, and many guests enjoy exploring the area by horse or donkey. Hikers and mountain bikers will also find plenty of trails to explore within la Maremma, as locals refer to the parkland, and the reserve boasts dozens of public beaches, too. Regional butteri, la Maremma’s traditional herders, coax and corral oxen rather than cattle, and the region offers abundant wildlife and bird-watching opportunities, with resident wild boar, fox, and deer, plus over 270 registered species of birds and water birds such as wild geese, crane, snowy plover, and osprey in the wetlands area of the parkland. Birdwatchers can also explore the wetlands by canoe.
