Architect Tryggvi Tryggvason Composes A Simple Structure That Captures Southern Iceland's Stark Beauty
The spectacular scenery and seclusion no doubt inspired architect Tryggvi in the placement and composition of this country home. Practical yet beautiful in its simplicity, we love the stunning views and harmonious connection with the landscape.
Architect Tryggvi Tryggvason Composes A Simple Structure That Captures Southern Iceland's Stark Beauty
Set in an otherworldly landscape of stark natural beauty, this holiday letting in Iceland is designed for and well suited to its environment. Situated along the southernmost coast of Iceland in rugged windswept terrain, the simple horizontal architecture designed by Icelandic architect Tryggvi Tryggvason is straightforward stylish. Inhabiting a predominantly agricultural area, this former farm has been given new life and completely transformed into a chic rural escape.
Inspired by traditional Viking houses, the design is long and narrow, with large windows that immerse you into the spectacular scenery from every angle. Using muted tones and industrial construction, and materials that withstand the elements, it's rugged and modern.
The interiors are warm and light-filled with wood accents, homey furnishing and decor, and a spacious comfortable layout. The fully equipped kitchen, dining, and living area form one bright open plan space to share and enjoy the views.
With three bedrooms (one master bedroom and two smaller bedrooms) and one large bath, the house can sleep up to six guests comfortably.
Quiet, tranquil, and set within a stunningly beautiful location, this is one of those great escapes you remember for a lifetime.
THE SOUTH
Located in the southernmost area of Iceland, 185km from Reykjavik and the famous Jökulsárlón glacial lagoon, Vik is a small village of just a few hundred people and just a ten-minute walk to the black sand/pebble beach of Reynisfjara, where the waves are among the biggest in Europe.
There is also a spectacular view from the house of the two large glaciers, Mýrdalsjökull and Eyjafjallajökull, and the Katla volcano. Southern Iceland offers some of the best sites in Iceland for sightseeing, mountaineering, and exploring its natural wonders by car and on foot.
