A Shakespearean Romance
This apartment is wonderfully unexpected. From the outside, it's as ancient as anything the UNESCO-listed city Verona has to offer. Inside, however, it is quite the opposite - a bold, contemporary alternative to the old-world charm of Shakespeare and his star-crossed lovers.

If you're looking for an old-fashioned take on Shakespeare, this is probably not the property for you. But if you fancy something a little different, you won't be disappointed.
The owners of this apartment (they have two side-by-side, Romeo and Juliet) have taken the romance of Romeo and Juliet and given it a 21st-century spin. While the exterior of the building blends in perfectly with the ancient architecture of Verona's city center, the interiors have strong contemporary lines. A simple palette of white and pale wood is highlighted with bold dashes of vivid color, and the space is filled with beautiful, quirky objects.
Care and attention has been given to everything about this space. Furniture is by two design teams. Vontree, a creative collective that blends interior design, art and craft, have contributed clean, minimal, industrial lines created using reclaimed materials such as iron, wood and cement.
Other furnishings are by Sbobinal/Design, an eco-friendly project that uses industrial salvage materials like electrical cable reels, scaffolding and crates to create handmade, minimalist designs. Abstract paintings are by Italian artist Michele Tammaro.
ADDITIONAL FEATURES
Amenities include a smart satellite TV, Nespresso coffee machine, in-room safe, heating and air conditioning.
AROUND
The city of Verona was awarded World Heritage Site status by UNESCO because of its urban structure and architecture. This apartment is located overlooking the 'ala' of the Roman Arena in Piazza Bra, on the left side of Via Mazzini, and they afford magnificent partial views of the square and city.
There's plenty to do in Verona, with its Roman and Romanesque architecture. The center of the city is dominated by the Arena, which dates back to 30AD and is the third largest in Italy. Most of the other Roman buildings remain under the city's surface, with the exception of the Ponte di Pietra and the Roman theater.
Medieval sights include the beautiful basilicas of San Zeno Maggiore and San Lorenzo.
And of course there's Casa di Giulietta which is believed by some to be the former home of Juliet. Proclaim your undying love, chain a lock to the fence, or visit the house's museum, featuring a wide collection of photographs and historical artifacts relating to Shakespeare's ill-fated heroine.
