A Modern Lakeside Cabin at The Canadian Frontier
We love a faraway lake house, especially one that makes you work a little to appreciate it and reminds you of where you are. This remote and beautiful property with unexpected mid-century style combines everything that makes vacation and design exciting.
Located at the frontier of the Canadian border in a beautiful region of northern Washington state, this lakeside home has elevated what it means to be "a cabin in the woods." Positioned just above the lake shoreline and down a rugged road, this home is defined as much by its location and stunning natural beauty as its surprisingly luxurious and modern interpretation of a rural getaway.
Surrounded by dense forest and lakefront vistas, the structure and interiors have echoes of Lloyd Wright and mid-century modernism with rustic laid-back style. Recipient of the 2014 Best Residential Wood Design Award by the Canadian Wood Council, the architectural lines and one-of-a-kind bespoke construction deliver sophistication and handcrafted style along with a magnificent location.
The ground floor features open plan living and dining areas with a cozy fireplace and gourmet kitchen that can serve up to six inside or out on the full-length deck facing the lake. With one en suite bedroom on the ground floor and a master suite upstairs that incorporates an indulgent soaker tub with spectacular lake views, the house sleeps up to four.
Outside the deck spans the length of the house and is the ultimate spot for firing up the BBQ and soaking in the hot tub or venturing down to the dock for a swim.
Around
At the northernmost point of Washington state, you are within twenty miles of the Canadian border and about an hour and a half to Vancouver.
Nearby Mt. Baker features multiple levels of hiking trails, as well as seasonal ski slopes with record annual snowfall. The famous Pacific Crest Trail traverses right through it and connects with the Snoqualmie Forest.
The Nooksack River is one of the last “wild” rivers in Washington state with world-class rafting rapids and fishing. Bellingham is within an hour's drive and Seattle is just over two hours.
