Double Volumes with Pacific Panoramas in California’s Famous Sea Ranch
This is a home of two parts, entered via a gravel courtyard that's anchored by a Japanese maple. The first, a single-story volume, is lofty and spacious, with a gleaming cement floor. It contains living and dining rooms with a dramatic fireplace at center stage, an open-plan kitchen, and primary ensuite bedroom.
The adjacent tower is home to a study, second bedroom and bathroom, with a built-in desk and several reading nooks. The third bedroom is a fold-out queen bed. The interior is classic Sea Ranch styled, though considerably opened up, with a touch of bright, “modern chalet” styling, too. A mid-century modern meets sleek Scandi vibe is offset by wide view windows.
Outdoors there’s a hot tub and open-air shower deck with views of the ocean and a front porch with wide Pacific views.
Additional features
The house is 2 ½ miles from The Lodge, and guests enjoy concierge services and VIP access to The Lodge’s daily event calendar and restaurant as well as General Store, pre-arrival grocery shopping, housekeeping and maintenance, transport to and from The Lodge, wellness and fitness services, and curated Sea Ranch experiences.
Around
The cabin offers easy access to the area’s most important architectural designs within the famous Sea Ranch community, including early houses by MLTW and Joseph Escherick. Developed in the 1960s, Sea Ranch is known for its distinctive timber-frame structures designed from weathered local redwood by noted American architects, and it rises organically from its rugged coastal landscape in California’s Sonoma County. Created by lead architect Al Boeke for “living lightly on the land,” Sea Ranch includes homes by Joseph Escherick, sea cliff condominiums by Moore, Lyndon, Turnbull and Whitaker, and landscape architecture by Lawrence Halprin, all of whom designed to respond to this dramatic coast’s natural elements.
The area offers hiking on miles of trails, beaches such as Black Point Beach, and activities at Sea Ranch's renowned Moonraker Recreation Center, with its heated pool, saunas, and tennis/pickleball court. The Rec Center is a mid-1960s structure with a wind-blocking wall, flying buttresses and “saddle bag bays,” plus the graphic design work of Barbara Stauffacher Solomon that covers its interior.
Sea Ranch Farm is a working farm located south of the Lodge using regenerative ranching and farming practices and a sustainable, closed-loop program to produce beef, lamb, nutrient dense eggs and veggies, cultivated mushrooms, pork, and honey from Italian beehives. Farm tours are available, with the option of a panoramic picnic on the hill above the bar.
Outside of Sea Ranch, the town of Gualala offers all necessary services with notable seafood restaurants, cafes and bakeries.
