Bringing New Life to A Forgotten Factory
Three custom apartments, filled with upcycled designer furnishings from the 20th century and select contemporary art sourced from notable gallerists, occupy this reclaimed, circa 1905 industrial building in Berlin’s creative Mitte-Wedding district, restored and preserved by visionaries Olaf Minkus and Elke Bokelmann of Stadtflucht.
Located in Berlin’s “it” neighborhood, Mitte-Wedding, this disused factory building has been renewed in the spirit of transferring history into modern life, with visionary style and sustainability as its driving forces. Stadtflucht studio’s owners are dedicated to restoring ruins, transforming them into aesthetic, stylish residences filled with climate-positive materials. Each of these vacation home rentals in Berlin features its own saturated color palette, soulful vintage statement furnishings, and organic, local textiles, plus an expertly curated selection of rotating contemporary art.
Please see individual units for further details.
AROUND
The hip, multicultural Mitte-Wedding district is accustomed to trendsetting. This northwestern Berlin neighborhood encompasses ethnically diverse residential zones, generous leafy parks favored by families and athletes, and even a swimming lake with a beach that gives the area its distinctive “Urban Exodus” feeling (Stadflucht studio’s English translation).
An influx of cool mixology cocktail bars, restaurants of the vegan and vegetarian variety, rustic organic bakeries and pop-up food concepts and nightclubs have joined the wealth of low-key, inexpensive Turkish and Lebanese cafes and delicious kebab stands, bringing new life into the traditional, working-class neighborhood.
Architecturally diverse, the district's buildings range from the Brutalist to the minimalist, and the area is also home to dozens of old warehouses and Industrial Age factories like the restored one that houses the Stadtflucht apartments.
Mitte-Wedding’s Shillerpark Settlement has UNESCO Heritage status, a community art center resembles a magical treehouse, a popular brewery features a beer bearing the 'hood’s name, and the neighborhood is even home to a castle-turned-courthouse, the Brunnenplatz. Home to artists, writers, gallerists and musicians, as much as local families, the area remains notably off Berlin’s standard tourist circuit, offering a glimpse into local life in one of Berlin's most authentic and happening boroughs. Count on local recommendations by Stadtflucht’s designers.
