Experiences
As an added extra, ask about booking a day trip on your hosts' Riva 51” Turbo Rosso, Margherita Moroseta II—a restored classic Italian motorboat from the 1990s. At 15 meters long, it can easily accommodate eight guests for swimming, sunbathing or just taking in the views, far away from the crowds. It leaves from Gallipoli in the morning, traveling along the west coast of Puglia for the afternoon. While on board, you'll dine on local produce, focaccia and chilled wine. If you'd like to linger on board for longer, book a two-day trip. The boat has two double cabins and two bathrooms.
Services included are cleaning every four days, final cleaning, as well as change of bed linen and towels every four days. Extra services available include breakfast, lunch and dinner, daily cleaning, yoga classes, personal training, massage and car service. The owners are happy to help with dining and travel advice.
Around
Carovigno, with its 14th-century castle and coastal watchtowers, is the closest town. As the region has a long coastline, there are many beaches to explore, both sandy and rocky. The sea is only 7km away from the villa, and the lovely Guaceto Natural Reserve is the nearest beach. Don’t miss the Grotte di Castellana, an extensive karst cave system, that is one of Puglia’s most popular attractions.
Ostuni is just a 15-minute drive away. Described by Lonely Planet as “a pearly white tiara”, it extends across three hills, with a cathedral centrepiece, and boasts a great selection of bars and restaurants. Other towns to visit include Alberobello, Martina Franca, Locorotondo, and Cisternino. And don’t forget to sample the region’s famous olive oils and wines.
