An Enchanting Poolside Trulli Estate
Its many conical rooftops rising from the banks of an expansive saltwater pool, this trulli complex occupies a large, lushly landscaped plot in the heart of the Valle d'Itria.
From the outside, this is pure Puglia—a cluster of trulli surrounded by groves of olive trees. But inside the restored cones are refined interiors wrapped in restored blonde stones that spiral from floor to ceiling. Living and sleeping spaces feature a décor palette in a bright, white-to-bone-to-sand and furnishings in classic European styling. Dozens of arching doorways and steeply domed ceilings interconnect in classic trulli style, and the estate’s outdoor living spaces are equally captivating. Fully furnished shaded patios, sweet sunny dining terraces, and a generous sea of green lawn space create the complex’s rambling footprint.
A designer swimming hole mimics a natural pond, the vast circular basin lined by reeds, grasses, and marsh plants, and features boulders around its periphery to enhance the pond-like feeling. This natural integration into the landscape attracts dragonflies, butterflies and swallows that dive and flutter across its gleaming surface.
Stretching beyond the pool, the trulli’s original rural lot extends for nearly four acres, which are home to hundreds of olive, almond, walnut, holm oak, cork and carob trees, as well as prickly pear and Mediterranean scrub.
Around
This is classic trulli country. The estate is located some 20 kilometers from the vivid village of Alberobello, the UNESCO- classified town showcasing thousands of whitewashed, fairytale trulli restored as residences, boutiques, restaurants, and galleries. Set on a rural plot outside of the delightful white town of Ostuni, the estate makes a great base for exploring the mesmerizing villages of Cisternino, Locorotondo and Baroque-era Martino Franco, all 10 kilometers away. Clay artisans' and potters’ studios line the streets of nearby Grottaglie, some offering daytime workshops. The crystalline waters of the Adriatic Sea and its coved beaches, plus the historic port towns of Polignano a Mare and Monopoli are also easily accessible from this villa for rent in Italy.
