Ocean views for days and cushy outdoor living sets the tone at this Malibu beach house steps from the secret Lechuza Beach, a sandy stretch said to be “so secluded it practically seems private” by Condé Nast Traveler. The bright, beach-boho-styled home offers barefoot-casual California styling with a focus on outdoor living. Passing whales and dolphins are visible from the couch and kitchen, a living space that fully opens onto an enclosed outdoor lounge with its own sectional and telescope.

Out back, a bougainvillea-draped dining area is hung with twinkle lights and warmed by a contemporary, gas fire table surrounded by pillow-dotted banco seating. There’s a built-in barbecue kitchen/food prep zone all integrated into the neatly manicured rock garden beds and paths, and a seating area and a shady hammock corner join the outdoor dining table.

Popular Broad Beach and El Matador beaches are both a half mile walk away, and the house is set on a cul-de-sac, offering privacy with its front-and-center Pacific Ocean views.

Around

The home is located just a couple miles west of Point Dume in a Broad Beach neighborhood at the end of a quiet cul-de-sac. Set on the west side of the famed Pacific Coast Highway, the home's privileged location means you won’t have to cross the road to hit the beach, and the area is walkable, cyclable, and friendly. The area is populated by Cape Cod-styled homes—some inhabited by celebrities (Charlie Sheen, Dustin Hoffman, Robert De Niro, Ray Romano). Trancas Country Market, Vintage Grocers, Malibu Brewing Company Taproom & Eatery and the Drill Surf Shop are minutes away, as are gas stations, coffee shops and necessary services up and down Broad Beach Road.

Beachcombers will love the quick stroll to Lechuza Beach, one of the area’s celebrated “secret beaches” given its access via a small neighborhood walkway near the house that’s notoriously hard to find, followed by a descent down a wooden staircase. Lechuza Beach is rocky offshore, so not ideal for surfing or watersports, but windsurfers, body boarders, and surfers need only head across the tide pools, or walk/drive less than half a mile to Broad Beach to find their pleasure. A bit further on, El Matador Beach is one of three beaches within a State Beach Park. It’s a famous fashion photography site, known for its striking sea stacks and technicolor sunsets as well as beach arches and caves carved into the bluff.

North of here lies La Piedra State Beach. Or, trek the sands back south to Lechuza Beach, passing under the striking waterfront homes of Malibu. Nearby Point Dume State Beach, west of the house, is a favorite spot for scuba divers and swimmers, a seal-populated, cliff-backed beach that’s also a great spot to rock climb.
