A Modern Cabin in the Woods of Appalachia
Everwoods Lodge is a newly built cabin offering space for nine guests across three bedrooms and a loft area nook. If the cabin’s exterior gives off all the dark Nordic-inspired vibes, its spacious interior is bright and cheery, fronted by generous glass windows and wraparound decks. The contemporary living room, with its sizable fireplace, soaring ceilings, big windows and rustic chandeliers feels more alpine chalet than Appalachia. And bedrooms include a king with an ensuite bath and balcony, two queen rooms with attached baths, and an XL twin bed bunked over a queen in the loft space, best for family sleeping with a child/teen overhead. A six-person hot tub stands on the deck and there are both outdoor and indoor dining areas, plus a sleek, modern, kitchen island with bar seating.
Around
Located five miles from Ash Cave and nine miles from the entry to Hocking Hills State Park, the modern rental cabin occupies a thick woodland on 10 acres in the greater foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. The cabin is perched along the base of a lush ravine, and the property offers private, maintained hiking trails on site with abundant local wildlife. A mile down the road there’s a local winery, Le Petit Chevalier, and the region is a rich outdoor playground, with state parks and national forests, hiking trails and caves, canoeing, kayaking, adventure parks, zip-lining, rock climbing, and horseback riding all part of the local attractions.
Sandstone rock pinnacles, crashing waterfalls, sheer cliffs and gentle waters make the area a year-round recreation destination. The woods are abundant as are starry skies, and every fall this beautiful natural area is a riot of color. Hocking Hills State Park has a primeval forest pocked with caves and waterfalls. There’s a five-mile loop for hiking to Whispering Cave, a uniquely acoustic geological site, and with some of the country’s darkest night skies, the area is home to the John Glenn Astronomy Park where on clear nights you can be awestruck by star clusters, meteor showers, comets, and the bright swath of the Milky Way. Rock climbers flock to the region’s sandstone cliffs that soar above the trees, and there are also outdoor adventure guides that can take you caving, boulder scrambling, and rappelling. Kayakers and canoers love the gentle waters in the area, and there are also abundant outfitters for family-friendly rafting and paddling trips. And be sure to check out some of the region’s interesting architecture, including cave houses, treehouses, and stony waterfront retreats.
