A Balancing Act of Minimalism and Whimsy in the Scottish Countryside
Like a chic little cousin adjacent to Dun Aluinn (our stately Queen Anne style beauty circa 1909), The Lodge is a luxurious addition to the moody and serene Scottish landscape. To wit: directly following its recent painstaking restoration, it was selected as one of “The best holiday homes to rent in the UK" in Condé Nast Traveller.
Approach swaths of wildflowers and let the lodge come into view, handsomely clad in cedar and surrounded by sweeping views across the valley and towards the River Tay, along with the charming Highland town of Aberfeldy in the distance.
Its interiors earn their design-editorial clout in manifold ways: from the muted color palette to a minimalist fireplace and fuzzy throws draped all around, the vibe is soft and serene with thoughtfully-unfolding pops of bold color, such as in the en-suite bathrooms, featuring sinks by the Dutch brand, Not Only White (who won a European Design award) in M&Ms hues.
This holiday home in Scotland has four bedrooms, two with king-size beds and two with super kings and all with en suite bathrooms. It can accommodate up to eight guests.
Guests are encouraged to cook or arrange for a private chef in the open plan dining kitchen, sink into the deck chairs by the fire pit and watch the sun fall, or walk into the historic Perthshire town of Aberfeldy.
The Lodge is located on the same 5.5 acres as the main house Dun Aluinn, but each has its own private grounds. The Lodge also has its own entrance and private parking. If you're traveling with several families or a large group, or are interested in events and weddings, the two houses can be rented together, sleeping 26 guests over 13 bedrooms (all with en-suite bathrooms), and allowing guests access to the entire estate.
ADDITIONAL FEATURES
Breakfast basket by Ballintaggart Farm (Michelin Guide 2020 & 2021), access to Dun Aluinn Highland Experiences Daily, bicycle and golf club storage.
Optional add-ons: Full or part-time catering by Ballintaggart Farm, concierge services, private airport transfers, full Housekeeping and turn down service in the evening time, laundry service.
WATERFALLS AND WHISKY
The property has a rich menu of active and outdoor offerings right outside its doors, including the famous "Birks of Aberfeldy" waterfall-laden walk that once inspired a Robert Burns lyric. Explore the beautiful landscapes on foot by walking its hills, biking, canoeing or paddle boarding or fishing. Scotch lovers (or dabblers) should pay a visit to the local Dewars whisky distillery for a tour and a wee dram. Culture lovers will enjoy a stroll through Aberfeldy, with its bookshops, boutiques and cafes, and there is also a lovely local Art Deco cinema.
Once Scotland's ancient capital, the nearby city of Perth is a thriving modern hub situated along the banks of the River Tay and is also home to historic houses, castles, parks and gardens as well as several good museums.
Dundee, a UNESCO City of Design, is just over an hour by car, through the stunning and scenic countryside of Angus where you can explore the V&A Dundee Museum, McManus Art Gallery & Museum, and the historic ships like RRS Discovery.
