Malibu is famed for its beaches, and the city’s Surfrider Beach, just off the Malibu Pier, was named the first World Surfing Reserve. On the northern tip of Malibu, Zuma Beach is its most popular and family-friendly sandy stretch, and neighboring Point Dume is a whale-watching outpost. The Robert H. Meyer Memorial State Beach is also located on the northern end of Malibu, home to scenic El Matador, El Pescador, and La Piedra pocket beaches, backed by cliffs and jutting rock formations. 

Malibu offers 21 miles of coastline, so there’s a beach for everyone here and also an abundance of mountain parks filling the Santa Monica ridges above the coast. Hiking trails wind through the Santa Monica National Recreation Area, and half a dozen local and regional parks as well, including Malibu Bluffs Park, Las Flores Creek Park, and Trancas Canyon. Gorgeous, counter-culture Topanga Canyon is an easy drive from Malibu up a winding road. The Getty Villa, the original home of the Getty Museum showcasing ancient Greek and Roman art, is walking distance from the house.
