Mountain Geometry Meets Canadian Design
This 5,500-square-foot chalet merging the raw spirit of the mountains with the refined style of Battersby Howat Architects, was designed for a family of avid snowboarders. A celebration of modern Canadian architecture, the property is at once monolithic and bold, subtle and warm.
The blackened exterior is complemented by a concrete and glass façade that is tucked into the sloping terrain descending from Wedgemount Glacier, terminating with the Green River flowing through the foot of the property. The sound of the rushing river is natural white noise at its best.
The home is entered through a sheltered, sunken enclave that opens into a living space with a welcoming kitchen entertainment island, a generous dining area and a sofa-lined living area. Overhead, hemlock ceilings outfitted with small aperture speakers offer club-quality sound, and a more intimate TV room has a cozier feel for movie nights. Off the lounge and dining area, 40-foot glass sliding doors open up to the patio, pool and hot tub.
The expansive home sleeps 16 guests, with a king primary suite offering forest panoramas and a spa-quality en-suite bathroom. There are three queen bedrooms (that share a bathroom) and a bunk room for six (with its own bathroom). Plus there's a separate cantilevered studio (with en-suite bathroom) that's used for yoga and Peloton but also includes an extra queen bed for overflow guests.
The garage has snowboard racks for equipment or mountain bikes depending on the season, while the drying room, accessed through the entry enclave, features an electric drying rack to ensure boots and gloves are nice and dry for the next day out.

Around
A year-round mountain resort, Whistler Blackcomb is North America’s largest ski resort, with over 8,000 acres of terrain, more than 200 marked runs, 16 alpine bowls and three glaciers. The resort’s PEAK 2 PEAK Gondola is the world’s highest and longest continuous lift system, Condé Nast Traveler named the resort the best ski resort in North America, and the area hosted the 2010 Olympics. Backcountry heli skiing is very convenient, with the heli pad a quick five-minute drive from the house. Pick up zip lining at Cougar Mountain or ride snowmobiles at Brandywine Mountain. Winter adventures are endless.
Summertime is equally epic, as the gondola transports riders to over 50 kilometers of hiking trails and striking panoramas. Giant snow walls form a labyrinth above the trails, creating a one-of-a-kind adventure. Open-air chairlifts offer scenic aerial views, a restaurant operates at 1,800 meters, and mountain bikers can find their nirvana. A 10-minute walk from the house are private pickleball and tennis courts. Pemberton is a 15-minute drive and magical in summertime. Pick fresh berries at North Arm Farm or cool down with ciders or beers at the Beer Farmers.
Dining in Whistler is world class. Wild Blue Restaurant and Bar continues to add accolades, alongside Araxi and Il Caminetto. Sushi Village is a must for the best Japanese, and Provision, % Arabica, and Mt. Currie Coffee Company as the best for your flat whites and espressos.
