An Architect's Eight-Cone Trulli Complex
The name Otto Cappelli means "Eight Hats," a nod to the magnificent cones crowning this historic stone residence. The restoration by Flore & Venezia honors the original soul of the structure. They preserved the vernacular architecture while introducing a refined, minimalist design language that creates a dialogue between past and present.
Inside, the home balances rustic stone with contemporary comfort. Shared spaces include a spacious lounge and a custom-built stone kitchen with an adjoining dining area. Natural materials, soft, filtered light, and carefully curated furniture define the understated elegance. The interiors include barrel-vaulted ceilings in the lamia and conical roofs in the trulli, creating unique, harmonious spaces.
The grounds, designed by Gianni Birardi, are a living experience. A heated saltwater infinity pool overlooks the valley. Two pergolas provide dedicated spaces: one for dining alfresco by the kitchen, the other a relaxation lounge. Landscaped Mediterranean gardens, an outdoor bathroom, and illuminated pathways complete this private haven.
What we love
We love the historic stone dwelling lovingly brought back to life by the collaboration of architect and landscape designer. The entire property is such a great example of sensitive restoration and understated elegance, created by using local materials and artisanal touches. This is the perfect home in which to experience authentic trulli charm in a relaxing atmosphere, even for larger groups with the separate bedrooms and various areas for relaxation.
Layout
The villa is designed for privacy, with all four double bedrooms featuring en-suite bathrooms and independent garden access. One bedroom offers a secluded feel with a double shower. Another is set within a traditional lamia, distinct with its rustic barrel-vaulted ceiling. The central trulli house the kitchen and lounge, connecting directly to the outdoor dining pergola.
