Sweet Circular Retreat
An architectural Cinderella story, this adorable trullo is today an intimate retreat, a sparkling love nest that was revived from its humble agricultural beginnings when it was built in 1900, and transformed into dreamy modern sanctuary for two in 2020.
A classic trullo anchoring a field of ancient olive trees and green pastures with passing sheep, this villa for rent in Italy was created to be a sweet love nest or serene, solitary sanctuary, revived from its rural beginnings into a whimsical country home with distant views to Ionian Sea.
Two bicycles add to the rural lyricism, and there’s a well-marked cycling path adjacent to the property, the Apulian Aqueduct trail that extends into the countryside for hundreds of kilometers. Linger in the lap pool, contemplate the rugged, limestone-pocked landscape surrounding the planted garden, or cozy up in the cute domed interior, where every bit of the compact space has been cleverly furnished and even includes a wood burning fireplace.
Romance is in the air inside the stony blonde dome, thoughtfully furnished with hotel-quality sleeping quarters, and kitchens both indoors and out, plus a sheltered dining terrace for candlelit alfresco meals.
Read a short history of the trullo in our Stories section here.
AROUND
Centrally located in Puglia, this villa for rent in Italy is located on a paved terrace within an olive grove, revealing its agricultural origins. A private pool, landscaped garden, and small shed surround the home, and the intimate retreat offers distant views to the Ionian Sea, where white sandy beaches await only 40 minutes away.
The Apuian Aqueduct cycling trail, a 280-kilometer path through the enchanted countryside, is located only a kilometer from the home, and two mountain bikes are included in the rental. Ceglie Messapica, regarded as the region’s gastronomical capital, is about a 15-minute drive, the home features ceramics from the enchanting potter’s village of Grottaglie, and the Baroque city of Martina Franca is less than a half hour from the home.
