The Southern Italian Charms of a Trullo in Valle d'Itria
This vacation home rental in Puglia has all of the unique charms and historical significance of the many Trulli that dot the hillsides of the Valle d'Itria, with warmth and dreamy artistry that connects past and present.
Restored and redesigned by two artists inspired by the dwelling's unique and iconic construction, the buildings were updated to highlight their traditional character and authenticity with the aim to preserve the "soul" of the Trullo.
Embracing the structure's imperfections and rustic features, the duo have composed the interiors and gardens in balance with the natural environment, using chemical-free, earth-friendly materials in the restoration.
There are thoughtful creative touches both inside and out and great attention to the smallest of details, creating a breezy place of magic, whimsy and laid-back southern Italian style.
Read a conversation with the owner in our Journal here and a short history of the trullo here.
The Valle d'Itria's famous Trulli dwellings are part of southern Italy's unique cultural identity and this vacation home rental in Puglia preserves what's so special about the region.
The distinctive conical shapes and cave-like construction are part of the area's agricultural history and this property has been lovingly restored to celebrate the beauty and simple pleasures of the past, adapted for modern living.
Divided into four separate conical structures, the large central space houses the living and dining area, while the middle cone includes a fully equipped kitchen. There is one double bedroom and an alcove lounge space that's a perfect hideaway for kids. The adjacent Lamia has an additional living room and library and overlooks the Trullo and gardens, with two bedrooms and an additional kitchen.
The gardens and plunge pool are surrounded by centennial olive groves with plenty of relaxing spots to chill out in the hammock, around the swimming pool and natural solarium, and to dine alfresco from the outdoor kitchen and BBQ area.
