Agrarian Elegance in the Tuscan Hills
Set within a thriving estate of silver-leafed olive trees and manicured vineyards, Villa Gamberaio is a meticulously realized family project that debuted in 2021. The renovation, led by owners Niccolò and Virginia Lavuri, honors the tactile tradition of the region while integrating high-specification infrastructure. The architecture utilizes reclaimed stone and terracotta, juxtaposed against contemporary furniture and state-of-the-art climate systems. Located in Massa e Cozzile, the villa serves as a sophisticated base for exploring the cultural nodes of Florence and Lucca, offering a managed stay that balances the rugged beauty of a working farm with the precision of a boutique hotel.
Originally an ancestral olive farm, the villa underwent a rigorous twelve-month transformation to emerge as a design-forward retreat. The interiors reject rustic clichés in favor of curated, minimalist aesthetics and artisanal craftsmanship. Its "soul" is rooted in the Lavuri family’s dedication to land stewardship, producing award-winning oil and wine that guests can sample directly from the source.
The interiors feature six light-filled suites defined by a neutral palette and natural materials. Each room is equipped with individual climate control, integrated Bluetooth sound systems, and Smart TVs. Bathrooms are finished with oversized walk-in showers and dual washbasins. Common areas include a professional kitchen and a living room that blends traditional timber-beamed ceilings with sleek, contemporary lighting and custom-designed furniture.
The grounds are anchored by a pool with an integrated hydromassage area and a slide, reaching a depth of 1.40 meters. A standalone 120-square-meter poolside pavilion features a fully serviced kitchen, dining area, and lounge. Beyond the pool, a six-seater heated Jacuzzi overlooks the vineyard. The terraced gardens offer a table tennis area and direct access to the estate's private olive groves.
What we love
We love how the owners swapped typical rustic clutter for reclaimed stone and clean, minimalist lines, making the house feel like a quiet, modern sanctuary. The design blurs the line between the sleek interiors and the working farm, so you never feel disconnected from the olive groves. Perfect sunset ritual: grabbing a bottle of the estate's own wine and heading to the poolside pavilion to watch the sun dip behind the Tuscan hills.
