Immersed within ancient olives groves just under a mile from the sea, this villa for rent in Puglia makes a striking architectural statement among the coastal landscape. With its minimalist, geometric forms and textural materials, the villa echoes the work of Mexican architect Luis Barragán.

Designed and built by an artist and interior designer couple who live and work here part-time, the house is a creative collaboration that tells the story of their lives and many passions for art, travel, and design.

The interiors are spacious and enveloping with dark, saturated earth tones and a fluid indoor-outdoor flow. Expansive and airy, the large scale of the living areas make the best use of natural light and views.

The kitchen and dining areas are on the bottom floor with five double bedrooms on the upper floor accessed via a grand staircase.

Furnished and decorated with one-of-a-kind pieces from around the world, the house is an inspired synthesis of contemporary and rustic design.

The land surrounding it was kept wild and natural except for the dramatic landing strip of a pool.

Within walking distance of the tiny farming village of Serranova and less than a mile to the sea, the Salento Peninsula region lies at the midpoint of Italy’s heel between both the Adriatic and Ionian Seas with lovely beaches on either side. The protected nature reserve and beaches of Torre Guaceto are within 10 minutes as are the medieval villages of San Vito dei Normanni, Specchiolla, and Carovigno.

The port town of Brindisi (and final stop along the famed Appian Way) lies 20 minutes southeast while the stunning Baroque city of Lecce, known as the Florence of the South, is within 30 minutes. The lovely UNESCO port town of Otranto and the Ionian seaside town of Gallipoli are worth a day trip drive while the White City of Ostuni, Martina Franca, Alberobello, and the Valle d’Itria are all within a short drive.
