Architect Stipe Seselja Restores an Historic Croatian Island Villa

Situated in the peaceful town of Nerezine, this villa for rent in Croatia is located on the quiet island of Lošinj. Surrounded by a century-old Mediterranean heritage garden, it's settled into an oasis of serene nature and privacy.

Dating back to the 19th century, the villa has been owned by the same family for over half a century and was completely renovated in 2020 with the help of architect Stipe Seselja (Studio Diorama), and a master Istrian craftsman, whose traditional woodworking techniques are evident throughout, including the massive front door on the house.
Stripped to its core, only the original bones of the walls, the roof, and the historic structural features remained as a starting point to restore the traditional proportions and materials of island architecture.

The two-story villa features open, airy spaces with a spacious living and dining area, as well and a fully equipped kitchen on the ground floor in addition to one double en suite bedroom.
The bright en suite master is located on the upper floor with an additional attic bedroom and lounge above, with room for up to seven guests.
The owners kept many of the original family heirlooms and mid-century furnishings and paired them with works of driftwood and stone collected from the beaches of Lošinj.

The gardens are a peaceful spot to relax in the sun loungers in the shadow of the big nettle tree, dine in the dappled light of the century-old grapevines, and listen to the hushed sounds of island life.

The spectacular historic towns of Osor and Lubenice host classical music festivals in the summer, while the cities of Mali Lošinj (“Island of Vitality”) and Cres (“No Stress on Cres”) offer an array of tourist attractions.
