It's where the ideas took root and the adventure began... Verana is the place that started it all, and launched what would ultimately become BoutiqueHomes. Taking you well off the beaten track in a completely immersive experience, it says everything you need to know about our interpretation of modern living and a chic nomad's sense of adventure and style.
As you approach Verana from Banderas Bay, you'll first spy the bright orange umbrellas popping out of the jungle. As you get closer, the scene takes shape - a cluster of chic little dwellings with panoramic views of the ocean and the Valle del Sierra Madre Occidental.
Hand-built and carved out of the lush Mexican jungle by BoutiqueHomes founders Heinz Legler and Veronique Lievre, the hotel is remote and secluded, but still offers all of the comforts for a relaxing and totally unique getaway. The hotel is accessible only by boat from the mainland, and what it takes to get there (arriving quite stylishly on a mule from the shore!) is nothing compared to what you'll experience when you arrive. Cited by Vogue as "One of 7 Under-the-Radar Boutique Hotels to Know", the hotel's draw is its unique take on simple luxury among the breathtaking scenery.
Originally intended as a single house, the project grew from the couple's deep appreciation of nature - from images and ideas, and a passion for design and adventure. A wonder of environmental engineering and sheer human grit, the untouched jungle site was carefully shaped and meticulously designed using local materials sourced from the land. It evolved over time into an earthy and stylish compound of nine individual houses, a spa, and a restaurant/bar that serves the freshest of locally sourced ingredients.
Each house was designed with its own character and feel to blend with the environment, and each includes its own private outdoor space. A special place of spectacular natural beauty, Verana transports you to a private oasis of imagination, artistry and style.

AROUND
It's all about adventure as well as relaxation here. An hour or so south of Puerto Vallarta, the small fishing village of Yelapa is a remote outpost along the crescent shaped Bay of Banderas. Surrounded by picturesque wild habitat, the town is accessible only by boat so has thankfully escaped much of the mass tourism of other coastal towns (so far).
A half hour walk down the mountain, the village has a few little restaurants, bars and shops where you can buy groceries and most things you'll need. There is also a long beach for swimming or kayaking.
