This chic and charming collection of houses right on the banks of the Douro proves that you can have fun with modern design elements and not detract from the natural beauty and traditional character of a place. We like the balance of rustic charm, contemporary sophistication and stunning riverfront beauty.
From March 2021, the property is open to a reduced number of guests, in order to provide an enhanced service. Reservations will be accepted for a maximum of ten people. Houses are available on an individual basis, or the whole property can be rented exclusively.
Nestled along the banks of the Douro River between the Marao and Montemuro mountains in the UNESCO site of the Douro Valley, this collection of rural houses reinvents the hotel experience with great style and warmth.
Comprised of four individual houses and a separate en-suite bedroom, each has been restored with an energetic modern update that utilizes the existing historic structural features and traditions paired with contemporary elements that are undestated and elegant. The interiors have been expanded and heightened and are awash in natural light taking full advantage of the river front views. Three of the houses feature fully-equipped kitchenettes with room for two to six guests each.
The grounds are expansive and rambling with terraced gardens, a pool and riverfront dock for lounging and boating. It's a peaceful and relaxing escape that combines chic modern design with the soul of a small village, allowing for a serene, uncomplicated experience in harmony with nature.

AROUND
Located just over an hour from the historic city of Porto in the northern most regions of Portugal, the UNESCO site of the Douro valley stretches over one hundred 20 miles from Porto to the Spanish border with breathtaking mountain and river scenery. The area is home to a vast wine region which is one of the oldest in the world. Mountainous and winding, the roads north lead to the beautifully preserved medieval city of Guimarães and the lovely town of Amarante in Alto Douro passing along many historic quinta estates.
Nearby Penafiel is the second oldest city in the north of the country and is often referred to as Arrifana de Sousa. The city of Vila Real is an hour north east and is a good jumping off point to explore the nearby Parque Natural da Serra do Alvao, with its lush valleys and majestic mountains.
