A Lagoon Of Seven Colors

We love discovering places of sublime beauty and low-impact design that respect and celebrate nature.

Clustered along the shores of the ethereal Bacalar Lake, these eco-conscious cabin rentals in Mexico tread lightly on its fragile beauty with stylish simplicity and effortless ease.

Down a bumpy, rambling dirt road just outside of the Pueblo Magico of Bacalar, getting here is part of the adventure. Settled into the lush jungle in Quintana Roos' far southern coastal region, these cabin rentals in Mexico are huddled along the shimmering shores of Bacalar Lagoon. A magical site with a spectrum of ever-changing colors bordered by the lush greenery of the jungle, the area is a largely undiscovered gem.

Come prepared to unplug, float among the turquoise waters and leave a minimal footprint behind.

Designed by a Mexican couple with backgrounds in sustainable architecture, the collection of six A-Frame cabins have been built with all local materials, are entirely solar-powered, and operate within sustainable, biodegradable, and socially responsible principles in an effort to promote an environmentally conscious way of life.

Each of the six cabins is elevated on piles and constructed with thatched grass roofs, with lofty interiors and glass fronts that open into the jungle or out to the lagoon views. All have open-air baths.

The rambling gardens include terraces with incredible views, that all lead down to the dazzling turquoise waters complete with floating platforms.

Take escape, relaxation, and eco-responsibility to the next level here where you can gently inhabit the land and marvel at the beauty of this remarkable place.

QUINTANA ROOS' SOUTHERN LAGOONS

Dubbed the "Lake of Seven Colors", Bacalar Lake and its surroundings have largely been undisturbed by the mass tourism of some of its neighbors in the Yucatan. Its distance from the southern region's major hubs has kept overdevelopment at bay so far with just a handful of resorts springing up along the waterfronts in recent years.

A designated Pueblo Magico, Bacalar's colonial-era zocalo is centered around the 18th century Fort of San Felipe and still has a somewhat small-town vibe, with excellent and affordable eats and a walkable center to explore.

Settled on a hill above the lagoon, the town, and Mayan region was colonized by the Spanish in the 16th century and is surrounded by the coastal lagoons, waterways, and nature reserves at the farthest southern end of Quintana Roo.

Just over twenty-six miles long, it's jaw-dropping beauty and pristine waters snake through the jungle and are home to the amazing (and fragile!) ancient stromatolites and cenotes. The fascinating and vast Mayan archaeological sites of Dzibanche and Kohunlich are about an hours' drive and well worth the visit.
