Architect Vincent Yueh Crafts A Home Modeled On Traditional Shop Houses
Situated in a leafy hilltop neighborhood of central Tokyo, this striking residence resides among the massive scale of neighboring buildings in quiet harmony with its surroundings. Placed on a small lot, the house was designed to overcome the limitations of space with a smart and efficient use of vertical scale and interior layout that create bright open plan spaces that flow seamlessly into each other.
Built in 2009 by owner and award-winning architect Vincent Yueh, the modern concrete construction was inspired by and modeled after traditional Japanese shop-houses and is a beautiful expression of clean minimalism without starkness.
Large windows, neutral colors, and natural light expand and enhance the interior spaces while the warm wood paneling is used to counterbalance the cool concrete. The airy open spaces were created to allow plenty of natural light and ventilation as well as privacy.
Considerably larger than many apartments in the city, the house features four bedrooms including kids bunks, and two full baths, and can accommodate up to seven guests. The large open plan kitchen, dining, and living areas are bright and spacious making this a great residence in the city.
MEGURO EBISU
Located in the quiet and historic neighborhood of Meguro Ebisu, the area is known for its beautiful green spaces in an otherwise congested city. The hilltop district is home to many of the best restaurants and shops and is just a couple of metro stops from the spectacles of Shibuya and Shinjuku.
