A Sustainable, Wooden Nest
This rustic home has all the charm of a cabin in the woods, but without the woods. It's located in the small village of Anzing in Bavaria, just a few miles from Munich – making it a great destination for escaping everyday life, without having to drive for days to get there. Everything you'll need is within walking distance, and extras are all very drivable, including numerous lakes, great hiking trails in the Alps, and adventure playgrounds for the kids.
The owners of this cabin built it for their family a decade ago but have now made it available to guests. It's a place to find calm, built sustainably, with minimal fuss and clutter. Exteriors are creatively clad in a jigsaw of old wood that the owners found on the site's previous structures, while cocoon-like interiors are lined with solid, locally sourced wood. The wood gives the home the delicate scent of spruce and lends the space warmth and great acoustics.
We love the modern polished concrete floor slab on the lower level and the oiled oak planks on the upper level. Decor is sparse, and that's intentional. You won't find much plastic here, and only the furnishings, appliances and utensils that you'll need. Many furnishings are family heirlooms, with stories to tell. But there's also an indoor swing, which is, after all, a basic necessity.
This cabin for rent in Germany is a great space for a family, with a large ground-floor living area, bathroom and a single bedroom on the ground floor with access to the terrace & a small, enclosed garden. Upstairs there are 3 bedrooms, and an extensive library with children's toys available, too. The house and its water are heated with wood, which means guests have to heat their water once a day, using logs stored in front of the house.

The cabin is located in Anzing, Bavaria, some 30 minutes' drive east of Munich East (Ostbahnhof) and 15 minutes to Trade Fair Center. The village has ample amenities, plus the Ebersberger Forest (great for walking and biking as well as its beer garden), all of which are within walking distance of the house. There are numerous lakes within easy reach, including Egglburger See, Klostersee in Ebersberg, and Steinsee in Moosach.
By car, it's eight minutes to the village of Parsdorf with its numerous shops, and five minutes to the Wildpark Poing, a large animal park with brown bears, birds of prey, and adventure playground. For day trips with great hikes, it'll take you less than an hour to reach the Alps and Salzburg, Austria, is less than two hours away.
