An Eco-Friendly Home On The Southern Coast
Situated along the southern coast of Iceland just 60 km southeast of Reykjavik, this contemporary home was built as a unique version of a coastal house and gets the tone and style just right.
With views over the rugged lava coastline, the house is ideally situated to explore many of the most amazing landscapes in the south. Clad in weathered timber and designed to be eco-friendly, the materials and placement are designed to tread lightly and adapt to the environment with geothermal and hydro-electric power.
With a lofty two-story A-frame layout, the interiors are bright and spacious with the living, dining and kitchen areas sharing the upper floor along with a master bedroom overlooking the coast, and two additional bedrooms on the ground floor.
The walls are crafted of branch-less plywood and the floors in rustic planking with a warm, neutral color palette throughout and a spare combination of old-world style and modern comforts. With room for up to five guests, the house is ideal for a family or group of friends to share.
The surrounding areas feature the best of the raw natural beauty of Iceland with a diverse and peaceful landscape of vast stretches of rugged black sand coast, waterfalls, and glaciers to explore.
ICELAND'S SOUTHERN COAST
The tiny town of Stokkseyri sits along the southern coast of Iceland just forty-five minutes' drive from Reykjavik. Renowned for its beautiful shorelines and wildlife, the area is rich in local color and culturally oriented around the former industrial fishing center and factories.
Don't miss the “Golden Circle” route, where Eurasia meets North America featuring some of the island's most amazing natural beauty. Adjacent to Þingvellir National Park (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) and Thingvallavatn Lake (the largest lake in Iceland), the area is also home to the Hengill volcanic area, Gullfoss waterfall, the hot springs area of Geysir, and the Kerid crater offering both winter and summer attractions.
