Three Light-Filled Nests in the Puglian Countryside Signed Andrew Trotter

At the heart of Salento, between the Adriatic and Ionian Seas, three independent country houses share a Mediterranean garden with a swimming pool set between centenary fruit orchards and stands of ancient olive trees. Simplicity, authenticity, and the materialization of the owner's generational memories of Puglia drove the design by Andrew Trotter, who interpreted Puglian simplicity through the use of local materials, methods, and artisanal traditions.

Three Intimate, Light-Filled Nests in the Puglian Countryside

At the heart of Salento, between the shimmering Adriatic and Ionian Seas, three intimate, independent country houses share a Mediterranean garden with a swimming pool set between centenary fruit orchards and stands of ancient olive trees. All three of the rustic-chic homes were created with nods to the area’s architectural traditions, featuring arched openings and vaulted interior volumes that infuse the spaces with light and peace.

Surrounded by the breathtaking beauty of the Mediterranean skies, shrubs and sea, this Puglian compound of three independent houses offers rest and relaxation for couples seeking a sophisticated, rustic-chic getaway of unassuming luxury, expressly designed for relaxation and the enjoyment of life’s simplest pleasures.

The three independent spaces each offer private gardens and dedicated outdoor living spaces, and share the expansive pool terrace and garden. Each retreat was designed for two, and built to offer the ease and authenticity of the cherished Puglian lifestyle of the owner’s childhood.

Constructed of local, artisanal materials in traditional styling, the bright structures present as romantic farmhouses awash with southern Italian sunlight streaming in through arching windows and doors, and reflected off gently curving vaulted ceilings. Interiors are minimal, with furnishings in soothing shades of bone. A reinterpretation of the country homes of simpler times, each casa was designed for relaxation and slow living, and all offer unobtrusive modern touches that add to the laid-back comforts.

AROUND

Located about equidistant between the Adriatic and Ionian Seas, Borgo Gallana’s garden is a destination in its own right. The landscape artists who created the space imagined the garden as a celebration of the Mediterranean ecosystem. Throughout the sun-drenched space, native and endemic plants create diversity amid the classic ancient olive groves and fruit orchards, and pathways and turf invite those who love nature to explore the restored space. A wide pool fills a spot in the yard, and terraced walkways around the three structures are lined with transats, benches, and potted plants.
