At BoutiqueHomes, we have a thing for properties with a combination of history and style, and we love these lofts in Florence. Start with their great location, just minutes from the center of the city, then add beautiful design and attention to detail. These factors in themselves would be enough for most travelers.
Way back in 1880, this property was a small factory. As the years passed, it was converted into artisans' workshops. Then in 1999, it was taken over by architect Claudio Nardi, who turned it into his design studio. A few years later, he had a vision of something completely different, and he transformed it again - into what he called "a home for guests".
Some would call it a hotel, some would say it's a collection of vacation rentals, but we prefer the description "rather like a small country hamlet". Its owners also describe it as "halfway between being at home and away". Which is exactly what we think vacation rentals should be. A mix of the familiar and the new, and a blend of social and private.
In other words, a small collection of modern lofts, in which contemporary design sits comfortably with traditional stone walls, cross vaults and fireplaces.
The hamlet has communal spaces plus 10 separate apartments, a private garden, white sandstone pool, hammocks and sun beds. There is a 24-hour living room with honesty bar, TV, CD/DVD player, wifi, library and fireplace.
So there’s plenty of room for getting to know the other guests – or for housing a large group in separate spaces. A great vacation home for rent in Italy.
ADDITIONAL FEATURES
Each studio has a telephone (with free national calls), TV, kitchenette or kettle and facilities for tea/coffee and snacks, heating/air conditioning, hairdryer, minibar (with free soft drinks), safety box, courtesy kit, and gym items. Free vintage bicycles are available for guests.
Don't miss the chance to dine at Riva Kitchen, the culinary heart of the home that's open for breakfast, lunch, a cocktail or dinner. Food is locally-sourced Tuscan or Italian, and it's served in the living room, on the terrace, or under the shade of the trees. Go one step further and join a past-making class with the resident chef, ending around the table toasting your accomplishments with a glass of wine.
AROUND The lofts are situated along the Arno, just opposite the historic Parco delle Cascine, which is within easy walking distance via a public garden along the banks of the river. It's a great place for running, walking or horse riding. The property is 2.5km from the center of Florence, which can be reached within 10 minutes by taxi or in 30 minutes by foot. The owners also offer free bicycles, which will get you there in 10 minutes. The new tramway (stop Paolo Uccello or Sansovino) is just 200m from the property.
