A Historic Village House on the Ligurian Riviera
Huddled on the cliffs below the 17th-century hamlet of Antico Borgo di Rollo, and 180 meters above the Mediterranean, this historic vacation home for rent in Italy was once a former oil mill, now repurposed into a charming residence.
Accessed via a footpath from the town church, the house is set among centennial olive groves with the sounds and scent of the sea wafting through the gardens.
Composed of stacks of stone, rustic timbers, and graceful barrel-vaulted ceilings, the historic building has been lovingly brought up to date with careful consideration for its historic character and modern comforts in mind.
Entering through the kitchen, the ancient millstones remain in place as a reminder of the original purpose of this ground floor space. Fully equipped, its ideal for whipping up meals to enjoy in the fireside dining space or even better in the shady gardens.
The vertical layout climbs into the first floor that includes two double bedrooms and one bath with an additional loft space that kids will love. The third floor has a cozy lounge space with some of the home's best views of the sea.
Furnished lightly but with attention to detail, each room exudes creativity and charm, with restored furnishings and hand-crafted decor.
The terrace is the best seat in the house, where you can greet the morning with sun salutations, sunbathe, dine alfresco among the Mediterranean gardens, or linger over an aperitif in the evening with lovely views out to sea.
The beach can be reached on foot in about fifteen minutes via an old, donkey path directly from the house.
THE LIGURIAN RIVIERA
Located in the Liguria region along the Mediterranean, the town of Andora is a casual beach town with lots of shops, restaurants, and bars and a lovely sheltered Blue Flag beach on the far western end that can be reached on foot via an old, marked donkey path from the church in about 15 minutes or a few minutes by car. Between April and October there are both rented and free beach sections as well as a dog beach. The rest of the time, they are freely accessible.
Here you can enjoy the best sailing, diving, surfing, and swimming in the warm turquoise waters and watch the migrating dolphins and whales on excursions into the protected areas.There are many cycling and hiking paths in the hinterlands surrounded by olive groves and mountains, and even winter sports in about an hours drive in the Ligurian Alps.
The beautiful Imperia beaches of Porto Maurizio, Prino and Spiaggia D'oro and within a short drive south. The Italian Riviera resort of San Remo is just a half hour’s drive and the French Riviera towns of Nice and Monaco are just over an hour away. The interior regions of Piedmont and Turin are a two-hour drive as are the winter playground of Alpes Maritime.
