A Stazzu-Style Home Imbued with the Spirit of ‘60s and ‘70s
“We wanted to create something different than the typical Costa Smeralda summer home, and we believe we have been successful,” say the owners of The Hideout, a newly constructed property that settles into the Mediterranean countryside with familiar ease. Inspired by ancient peasant farmhouses called stazzu, the two homes here that rent together are spread out over gently rolling land.
The owners aimed to create a cool place to be, harkening back to the ’60s and ’70s when people came to Sardinia to hide and not “be seen.” They also love paintings and were compelled to fill the spaces with art. Cozy yet refined, the home has rustic sensibilities like exposed wood beams and raw edge wooden counters in the bathroom, balanced by white space.
Amid the land, olive oil will be produced from the 300 young trees recently planted. Here, you can take a dip in the pool or have a pleasant walk through the hills.
Raw and authentic, this home is a fruitful dialogue between old and new and a question about whether luxury is simply the basics, wonderfully considered.
This vacation rental in Sardinia is split into two structures, a larger home that is slightly higher on the land, with a smaller unit below. The larger of the two has two bedrooms (one on each floor), two bathrooms, an open kitchen, a living room with dining option and a relaxing area in front of the fireplace. Verandas surround it, and there is a pool area with a myriad of lounging options. All around you are the hilltops and sea views.
The smaller unit is also a standalone house with two bedrooms, one bathroom, a kitchen and a living room and a veranda overlooking the olive plantation and the sea.
They both have satellite TV, WiFi and air conditioning in every room. There is a relaxing space in the garden and plenty of parking space throughout the property.
Countryside and Coastal Beauty
This vacation rental in Sardinia is located in Rudalza, a stretch of countryside overlooking the bay of Marinella, which is one of the main beaches in the area. Rudalza is located in the north part of the island, between the gulf of Golfo Aranci and Porto Rotondo in Costa Smeralda, and is very private, remote and stunning.
The island’s spectacular natural beauty is legendary and its turquoise waters and white sandy beaches in the Cala di Volpe, Grande Pevero and its smaller sister beach Piccolo Pevero are some of the best. A little further south is Romazzino and Principe beach along with sheltered coves, including Liscia Ruja and the lovely Cala Capriccioli. You can take a boat to the Golfo di Orosei’s coves or La Maddalena’s cluster of granite islands and the offshore islets of Li Nibani to discover spots accessible only from the sea.
The fishing port of Cannigione is a 25-minute drive from the villa and sells traditional Sardinian ceramics and arts and crafts and has both great morning and evening markets.
Nearby San Pantaleo and Porto Rotondo are charming towns to explore, full of delightful shops, restaurants, and cafes set against magnificent rock formations. Head down on market day to soak in the ambiance and peruse the arts and crafts. The island’s interiors are rugged and lush with oak and pine forests and the spectacular Gola Su Gorropu canyon for hiking, magnificent rock formations that the island is famous for, and Bronze Age settlements to discover.
