Part of a collection of historic homes (Moroseta Villas) designed and restored by designer and publisher Andrew Trotter, the former farmhouse was rescued from ruin, while still preserving its historic and atmospheric charms. Surrounded by over five acres of rural countryside and olive groves, this early 20th-century villa has been restored in keeping with the rural simplicity of the region.

The main house includes a spacious lounge with a fireplace directly off of the entrance hall, with two en-suite bedrooms on either side. As is customary in Italy, the kitchen forms the social heart of the house and is newly designed and equipped with the latest gourmet level facilities.

The large separate studio is adjacent to the main house and includes a double ensuite bedroom and a private terrace. There are a large covered terrace and built-in outdoor kitchen with alfresco dining areas and a shady lounge area to escape the sun.

The land surrounding it has been kept wild and natural with native Mediterranean gardens among the olive groves that frame the pool and outdoor living areas.

EXPERIENCE

As an added extra, ask about booking a day trip on your hosts' Riva 51” Turbo Rosso, Margherita Moroseta II—a restored classic Italian motorboat from the 1990s. At 15 meters long, it can easily accommodate eight guests for swimming, sunbathing or just taking in the views, far away from the crowds. It leaves from Gallipoli in the morning, traveling along the west coast of Puglia for the afternoon. While on board, you'll dine on local produce, focaccia and chilled wine. If you'd like to linger on board for longer, book a two-day trip. The boat has two double cabins and two bathrooms.

AROUND

The villa is a few minutes from Ceglie Messapica, one of the oldest towns in Puglia and its gastronomic heart. As the region has a long coastline, there are many beaches to explore, both sandy and rocky. Start with Torre Guaceto. And don’t miss the Grotte di Castellana, an extensive karst cave system, that is one of Puglia’s most popular attractions.

The white city of Ostuni is close by. Described by Lonely Planet as “a pearly white tiara”, it extends across three hills, with a cathedral centerpiece, and boasts a great selection of bars and restaurants. Other towns to visit include Alberobello, Martina Franca, Locorotondo, Cisternino. And don’t forget to sample the region’s famous olive oils and wines.
