A Minimalist Design Villa on the Algarve Coast
The owners of this striking villa in the Algarve have been visiting the region for over two decades and recently decided to undertake the renovation of this former shepherd's farm, under the guidance of Portuguese architects Atelier Rua. The typical architecture of the Algarve has been given a delicate but modern makeover, connecting past, present and future.
This minimalist design villa in Portugal is surrounded by beautifully landscaped grounds, with mature orange trees, a stylish pool, and lovely sea views. The typical architecture of the Algarve has been given a delicate but modern makeover, connecting past, present and future.
The homeowners are a creative director and a wine importer, so the home is not only remarkably stylish but it also has an honesty bar stocked with the best Portuguese wines, which you can sample and pay for at the end of your stay.
And the hospitality doesn’t stop there. The house is part of a new hosting concept where guests receive absolute privacy but with the luxuries of a boutique hotel. When you arrive, for example, you’ll be greeted if wanted at the airport by a flying receptionist, who will be available throughout your stay to set up any services you need—from massages to a personal chef. They also deliver fresh bread every morning, plus other surprises . If you’d like access to the wine cellar, just let them know.
The original living room has been completely updated but has kept its typical thatched roof and large windows overlooking the inner patio and garden. The former barn which adjoins the living room has been transformed into a patio built around an old bread oven. It’s an intimate space perfect for early morning coffee or evening meals. The stables have been converted into a dining room and cellar. It has a brand-new kitchen with Miele and Bosch appliances, including a well-stocked wine fridge.
Bedrooms are decorated in local cubist architectural style, and each has its own bathroom (with walk-in stone showers), patio and hammock – offering perfect seclusion if you’re staying with a larger group.
Located within easy reach of the beaches of the Eastern Algarve, this villa for rent in Portugal is great for groups or families. And, of course, wine lovers.
The award-winning minimalist architects of Atelier Rua know a thing or two about taking heritage properties to the next level, creating spaces that maintain an intensely personal ambiance, touched by nostalgia and combined with careful curation and luxuries more typically found in boutique hotels. Casa Um is the first in a series of homes that now includes Casa Dois, Casa Três and Casa Quatro, each home recounting its own tale of a bygone era interpreted through a modern lens—places where materials, locations and local flavor give the properties their new raisons d’être.
TAVIRA'S COSTA DO ACANTILADO
The villa is located in the countryside about 15 minutes by car from the city of Tavira, and the beaches of the Eastern Algarve (such as Fuseta Beach) are reached within the same time frame on low-traffic country roads. A small supermarket and a grocery shop are a five-minute drive away, and there are larger stores about 15 minutes from the house.
The owners recommend exploring Tavira as well as the smaller fishing village of Olhao, which is 25 minutes away.
