<p>A generous, cross-shaped tropical outpost, this oversized palapa features, at its heart, a kitchen opening onto to a long swimming pool. Tropical vegetation insulates the open, thatched property that’s looked over by cooking and cleaning staff who also deliver upon-arrival groceries selected according to guests’ preferences.</p>
<p>The kitchen is fully equipped with a farm table, prep island and stools, opening onto a generous circular common area for living, dining, lounging and swimming, making this property is a great place for gathering and sharing meals with family and friends.</p>
<p>Two bedrooms are king rooms, and the third has three singles, each opened to the common area if desired, via classic shuttered doors and windows. There’s an outdoor shower by the lushly landscaped pool terrace and an artesian well on property, too. </p>

<p>Trancoso is a small beach town that’s lack of resort development has made it a darling of the jet-set crowd seeking simplicity and seclusion. A former fishing village, Trancoso is located in the Bahia region of Brazil, a slightly off-the-beaten-path destination bathed by dense rainforest and surrounded by miles of beaches. The town is famed for its charming quadrado, a UNESCO-designated World Heritage site, with its whitewashed wedding chapel and colorful houses surrounding the square. The town became a favored hippie destination in the late 1960s, yet today the town is more hipster than hippie, its stylish cobbled streets and candy-colored houses increasingly popular with international trendsetters. Set on a bluff overlooking the ocean, Trancoso was originally settled by Jesuit priests in the late 1500s, and it is still pristine and relatively undeveloped today. The nearby villages of Arraial d’Ajuda and Caralva are worth a day trip, and one of Brazil’s most beautiful beaches, Espelho, featuring remarkably warm swimming lagoons formed at low tide by the coral reefs, is easily accessible nearby.</p>

Immersed in the lush tropical landscaping, the villa offers guests total relaxation and privacy in any of the four structures located on the property, each with its own unique character and view.  The Main Palapa offers soaring ceilings, a large kitchen, bar and dining lounge, and an additional studio/library all within sight of the infinity pool and the shoreline. The Palapa Bedroom Suite has an open-air bathroom, rock wall shower, and a daybed on a private deck for stargazing. The Domed Bedroom Suite's unique mosaic ceiling was created by local craftsmen and features a hot tub, open-air shower, and a private deck overlooking the beach. The Arriba Bedroom Suite is set above the other structures and offers incredible views of the Sierra Madre Mountain Range.Beautifully composed, the entire property compliments the natural landscape and offers serene beauty and comfort. ADDITIONAL FEATURESIf guests prefer to enjoy the pleasures of staying in the villa, instead of venturing out within the local villages, the house cook will be available for three meals each day. Standing on the sand, all made with bamboo and reclaimed wood, it enchants in a unique way. The main living area is a large hollow covered with piassava that opens onto a deck with a sea view pool.

<h2 id="stunningsandcasa">Stunning Sand Casa</h2>
<p>The newest addition to the As Casas group’s portfolio of Brazilian houses inspired by the fishing village lifestyle and immersed in the wildly lush tropical landscape, this beach villa has a service team that includes a concierge, chef, two kitchen assistants, four chambermaids, a bartender, gardener and pool staff, with 24-hour security and a small, independent event space with a yoga studio space to host massage treatments and other wellness therapies.</p>
<p>What is notable here, beyond its deserted, house-in-the-dunes location, is the property’s vast piassava-palm topped, traditional thatched roof. It soars high over the common living area and opens onto a deck with an oceanview swimming pool. The five bedrooms are independent bungalows connected to the living area via bamboo-covered walkways, and each sleeps two. An unobstructed <em>mirante</em> (viewpoint) offers an ocean panorama, and the beach is set with sun loungers and a shower, a great spot to catch sunrise or be awed by the starry night sky. An independent wellness space can host small events and yoga and massage sessions.</p>
<h3 id="around">Around</h3>
<p>Set on the sand of Praia do Pompilho in Serra Grande, south of the Tijuipe River, Pompilho Beach is one of a string of deserted beaches running for miles along the Atlantic. Backed by palms and the dense vegetation of a virgin Atlantic rainforest, the beach has no development, only a stretch of fine sand lapped by transparent waters warmed by currents. The closest beach with activity is Sargi beach, a three-mile stretch with pousadas, bars and restaurants. Traditional sailing rafts called jangadas are a frequent sight at the nearby Pé de Serra Beach. Pompilho Beach is accessed from Serra Grande town via a steep winding trail and via the property with its beach support staff. It’s a great swimming beach with coarser sand, though diving at the mouth of the River Tijuípe should be avoided. The beach has a lagoon by the sea and there is also a viewpoint trail high over the beach that offers views all the way to the Barra do Rio Tijuípe. </p>
<p>Serra Grande is a small, quiet town surrounded by dense tropical forest. Some 22 kilometers of sand and palms stretch from the village along the Atlantic coastline and the town’s inland area overflows with rivers, waterfalls and a huge Atlantic rainforest reserve and the State Park of Serra Conduru. The Contas and Almada Rivers form the Encantada Lagoon in State Park, and waterfalls, natural swimming holes and the Robalo Spring are all worth exploring. </p>
<p>Adventure tourism is at a prime here—emphasis on adventure—with rainforest trekking, mountain biking, rafting and even paragliding available via operators in town. Restaurants are of the casual and homegrown variety, with beach bars/cafes on Sargi and Pé de Serra beaches serving fish, shrimp, and crab, washed down by icy beers or tropical fruit juices. The town’s modest central square offers shops, a market, bakery, pharmacy, and other services as well as independent handicraft makers’ stands.</p>

<p>Each of the property’s five bungalows was built of natural materials such as adobe and sustainably harvested woods, topped by palapa roofs. The cabanas feature natural ventilation and solar-heated water, private interior gardens lush with drought-resistant plants and spacious terraces. Communal areas include a traditional Pacific-basin-styled palm leaf palapa at its heart, a 20m infinity pool facing the ocean, a wide swath of lawn, an air-conditioned Peace Room for reading and relaxation, as well as a workspace to encourage entrepreneurial remote work.</p>
<p>The Kitchen at Casa I focuses on Oaxacan cuisine with Mediterranean and South Asian additions. Outdoor areas include palm groves and fruit trees, lookout points, arbors and oases. <p>Completed in summer 2020, this pair of designer palapas floats just above ground, and features contemporary, open-air styling, a food and service team, and room for a small crowd. The house’s two bungalows each feature two bedrooms with full baths, one a king room, the other a double bunk set up for four, making it ideal for two families traveling together. The bungalows are connected by private boardwalks, feature raw concrete and warm wood partitions and a generous, independent living/dining and kitchen palapa open to the elements and flanked by an oceanfront lap pool. The rolling Pacific is visible from the sofas, dining table, hammocks and the bars/kitchen islands. Dolphins and whales pass along the shore, and spectacular sunsets and sunrises can be enjoyed from cushy poolside sunbeds and bedroom terrace seating.</p>

<p>The property is located on the shore at Puerto Escondido, walking distance from one of Boutique's favorite places, the international artist residency Casa Wabi. Envisioned by contemporary artist Bosco Sodi and designed by renowned Japanese architect Tadao Ando, it is open for visits twice weekly. Architect Alberto Kallach’s design work is on prominent display in the area, too, including Punta Pajaros with its by-reservation restaurant, and the Casitas by the Sea development, along with the clay oven at Casa Wabi and the not-to-be-missed Kakurega-Omakase Restaurant, helmed by Chef Keisuke Harada. The Laguna de Manialtepec is close to Punta Pajaros, a must-see lagoon that's a great place to organize a boat trip, kayaking or paddleboard adventure. From October to March, the lagoon has bioluminescence. Just opposite the lagoon is the Chacahua National Park.</p>
<p>Puerto Escondido is a port town that lies at the end of the Sierra Madre del Sur mountain range about 100 miles from the region’s inland capital city, Oaxaca. Arranged around a picturesque bay dotted with gigantic rock formations, the area is divided between Bacocho Beach on the north end, the Playa Principal resort area in the middle, and the famous surfing beach of Zicatela on the south end. Decks and terraces line the home’s exterior, and both indoor and outdoor kitchens create multiple dining and entertainment options alfresco or inside. <h3 id="around">Around</h3>
<p>Located in the rugged state of Goiás in central Brazil, the home is walking distance from the center of Alto Paraíso within the Chapada dos Veadeiros National Park, a UNESCO-classified preserve cut through by dozens of trails, rivers, deep canyons and waterfalls. The region is primarily agricultural, though it was once the site of a gold rush in the 1700s, and several of its towns are distinguished by their Portuguese-colonial architecture. The primary city of Goiás is an example of colonial, 18th-century architecture and mining, built along the Rio Vermelho, and given UNESO World Heritage status in 2001. </p>
<p>Alto Paraíso itself is known as a spiritual center. Meaning High Paradise, the town offers an off-grid oasis for wellness practitioners, shamans, new age philosophers and ayahuasca practitioners all seeking higher states from its wild natural beauty, indigenous healing modalities and its astonishing wealth of natural quartz crystals. The town is referred to locally as the “capital of the third millennium” for the dozens of mystical, philosophical, and religious groups that have settled in the region in recent years.</p>
<p>Surrounded by a Cerrado landscape, South America’s largest savanna and the world’s richest biologically, the land around Alto Paraíso alternates between closed canopy forests, watery inlets and streams, and well drained grasslands, plus tropical vegetation. The Chapada dos Veadeiros National Park is known for its dramatic gorge-like canyons and its (aforementioned) quartz crystal rock formations. The park tops a vast plateau between 600 and 1650 meters above sea level that dates back some 1.8 billion years making the rock crystals among the planet’s oldest, sought out for both industrial and curative uses throughout history. The park is the site of a dizzying number of waterfalls, some that spill for over 100 meters downward. Home to dozens of orchid species, the park also hosts jaguars and toucans, armadillos and anteaters and endangered species such as the pampas and marsh deer, and maned wolf. Tropical bird life is abundant, too, including colorful toucans and ominous vultures.</p>
