A Contemporary Perch above Vis Island's Archipelago
Croatia is known for its islands. In fact, it has over a thousand of them. For years, Vis, the farthest away from the shoreline, served as a military base, meaning that when it opened to the public again in 1989, it was unpopulated and underdeveloped. This, of course, made it enormously appealing to tourists, and when the cast and crew of Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again rolled into town in 2017, visits to the island really took off.
The villa sits on the eastern end of Vis, taking in sparkling views of the archipelago and mixing traditional with contemporary, best exemplified by its exteriors with their bold white angles and expanse of stone walls. Its beauty is in its simplicity - elegant white interiors, with tiled floors and walls, and warm woven and wooden furnishings. The living room opens into the infinity pool, which in turns spills over the edge of the hillside into the horizon beyond.
This villa for rent in Croatia is close to the small village of Zenka as well as the sandy beaches of Milna and Zaglav. With three bedrooms, it's a comfortable space for up to seven guests.
This villa for rent in Croatia is a great example of upside-down living. The three en-suite bedrooms are on the lower floor, while the living room, with its custom-designed kitchen, sits on the upper level, opening out onto the generously-sized terrace with its infinity pool and enchanting views.
THE ISLAND OF VIS
This small island off the coast of Croatia in the Adriatic Sea is about 35 miles from the mainland, and best reached by ferry from Split. Known for its relative seclusion over the years, it still has a small population of around 5,000. It boasts a thriving fishing industry and its own special white grape, the Vugava, which is said to be the ancestor of the Viognier.
When you're not dining on fresh seafood and sipping the local wine, must-sees include the towns of Vis and Komiza, Stiniva cove, the Blue Cave on the nearby island of Biševo, and Hum, the mountain that dominates the western side of the island.
