Architect Pedro Ferreira Pinto's Modern Love Affair with Comporta
Listed as one of Condé Nast Traveller’s best villas in Comporta, this holiday home in Portugal is one of several designed by leading Portuguese architect, Pedro Ferreira in the Alentejo's famous coastal region. Taking its name from the nearby springs among the rice fields that surround it, the villa stands in bold contrast to the wild countryside, inviting the outdoors in, with soaring, luminous interiors and panoramic views.
Composed of pure, clean lines, Pinto has limited the palette of materials to concrete and glass, punctuated with clever sliding wood panels on the facade that transforms the structure inside and out, allowing for privacy without obscuring the views.

Composed of pure, clean lines, Pinto has limited the palette of materials to concrete and glass, punctuated with clever sliding wood panels on the facade that transforms the structure inside and out, allowing for privacy without obscuring the views.
Simple and elegant, it’s also about a retreat to nature. Surrounded by over 50 acres of woodlands, the grounds blend seamlessly into the landscape and were designed for family escape and play.
Pinto’s driving philosophy is “less is more,” and this home is a striking example of how much more it can be.
Set in striking contrast to the pine forest and surrounding countryside, this holiday home in Portugal is nestled within over 50 acres of wilderness and blissful privacy just minutes from the pristine coastal beaches.
Its bold architecture designed by Pedro Ferreira Pinto is a standout among the pines, with simple, well-defined lines and airy open interiors that soar two stories high. Spare, stylish, and unabashedly modern, the spaces are designed for relaxing holidays inside and out.
The main house is spread out over two floors, with the double-vaulted living room lined with massive floor-to-ceiling windows on all sides, and flooded with natural light, with wooden shutters that slide away, or cover up. The state-of-the-art concrete kitchen is a foodie's dream with an open dining area in the main living space and plenty of outdoor spaces for dining and entertaining al fresco.
Connected by a suspended stairway, the upper floor houses a sitting room, while the four bedrooms are attached through a breezeway on the ground floor, and include a children’s bunk room.
There is also a charming separate studio on the property surrounded by wraparound terraces. There are lots of play zones, as well as outdoor terraces and living spaces around the pool. With a volleyball court, a football pitch, and hammocks strung beneath the trees, there are plenty of ways for enjoying the beautiful Alentejo countryside.
ADDITIONAL FEATURES
Villa rental includes four hours of daily housekeeping, with extra services upon request. Optional private chef available. Wifi throughout, satellite TV/Freeview with DVD player, stereo system, kitchen and bath amenities, laundry facilities, private parking.
AROUND
Just an hour’s drive south of Lisbon, the Comporta area of the Alentejo is ideally positioned to enjoy both the countryside and the Atlantic coastal areas. Praia do Pego and Praia Carvalhal are among Portugal’s most beautiful beaches and are within a 20-minute drive. The lovely former fishing village of Comporta on the Troia Peninsula is fast becoming a popular spot for the stylish crowd but thankfully retains its laid-back vibe and windswept natural beauty – for now.
A little further south the rural Serra do Grandola valley gives way to the traditional villages of Grandola and Melides, and its five-mile stretch of sand that separates the sea and the lagoon. Santiago do Cacem, the ancient Moorish and later colonial community with quaint cobblestone streets and fortifications, is just a few minutes further south along with the stunning ancient Roman settlement of Miróbriga. Setubal and the Sado estuary region is a short drive north.
