A Contrast Of Old And New
This penthouse apartment is a bold blast of color and playful design, located inside an ancient building on the island of Ortigia in Syracuse.
Located on one of the oldest streets of Ortigia, just across from the Marina, it's perfectly located for exploring the medieval town and is a brilliant blend of old and new. The juxtaposition of the old world with the cool modern vibe among the UNESCO beauty of this amazing island makes it a very special place to stay.
Occupying the second and third floors of an ancient building, the penthouse is split level - with the living and dining area lower and a bedroom and bathroom above. Both levels have terraces overlooking the rooftops of the city.
Eat outside and enjoy the views and sunshine. Eat inside and enjoy the bright and bold contemporary decor, design pieces and furnishings. Great features include the polished concrete floors, wood-lined shower and suspended staircase.
The property sleeps two in its bedroom, as well as two on the living room sofabed.
A TINY ISLAND'S ANCIENT TREASURES
The apartment is located on the tiny island of Ortigia, the historical heart of Syracuse, which is joined to the mainland by two bridges and known for its narrow medieval lanes, Baroque palaces and churches. All the streets converge on the lovely Piazza Duomo, where the cathedral resides.
The owners recommend a variety of local restaurants. For the classic Italian aperitivo (before the meal), San Rocco, Terraces in Piazza San Rocco, and Tinkite, in Via della Giudecca 61-63 are their favorites. For Sicilian breakfast, they recommend granita di mandorla and brioche at Piazza Duomo’s Terraces.
They also recommend a number of city beaches. Most notable is Ru Frati with its pista ciclabile - or biking path - a former rail track recently transformed into a park along the sea. It is also an open air sculpture museum park, and is a great destination in early morning or just before sunset. There are large number of additional beaches within 15-45 minutes by car.
