The Magical Mystical Beauty of Lake Atitlan
Set directly on the shores of Lake Atitlán, this secluded retreat invites you to relax and recharge in your own personal and private paradise. Situated on almost three acres of lush gardens, forests and orchards, the home is perched above the shore, with panoramic views of the lake and volcanic mountains.
Designed and built by a Czech/American glass artist and his wife, the property was created and crafted by hand, from the art on the walls to the furnishings and landscaped gardens.
Derived from the Ancient Buddhist word for 'peaceful mountain', Anzan is designed as a private sanctuary where the owners philosophy and primary focus is on individual attention and wellness. Drawing from Ayurvedic practices, there are optional wellness retreats on offer as well as culinary experiences that merge Mediterranean and local cuisine with seasonal organic produce, carefully selected and prepared by staff creating a unique and immersive experience designed to help bring you back into balance.
Additional features
Wifi throughout, more than 500 movies (if you bring your computer and USB), library of books in different languages, board games. Optional guided tours, private transportation, personal chef with organic produce/food delivery and meal service on your terrace with advance reservations.
Multi-sensory yoga and meditation are offered alongside massage and spa services. Custom retreats and day trips that include unique cultural adventures drawing on the most authentic elements of the local Mayan culture, from community visits to cooking classes and Spanish lessons. Kayaks for guest use.
Around
The region in and around the southwestern highlands of Lake Atitlan is one of Guatemala's most picturesque and culturally rich destinations.
Formed from a massive volcanic crater and surrounded by steep pointy slopes, the area is home to several traditional Mayan villages including the town of Panajachel, San Juan la Laguna, Jaibalito and Santiago Atitlán where you can take in the ancient Mayan culture while exploring weaving and textile arts, coffee and agricultural plantations, local fishing practices and an unmissable boat tour of the lake’s history.
Check out the Atitlán nature reserve and coffee plantation that offers a network of walking trails and a butterfly garden. It's a 20-minute walk to the village of San Marcos for perusing the restaurants and shops where you can grab a local tuk-tuk or boat ride which launches every 20 minutes.
Location
Lake Atitlan, Guatemala. Nearest airport: Guatemala City Airport. It is recommended to book a morning flight (before noon) to ensure a comfortable arrival at the property, as the shuttle direct to Panajachel takes approximately 3 hours and the boat leaving from Panajachel to the property departs at 7:30pm. It is also recommended that guests book late afternoon departure flights from Guatemala City, due to the transport times, to ensure that you don't feel rushed to make connections.
Best time to visit
The best weather is from December through February with dry season running from November through April. Temperatures are pretty mild year round.
