An 18th-Century Baixa District Townhouse
Housed in a stunning townhouse in the heart of the Baixa district, these 13 vacation apartment rentals in Lisbon have been meticulously restored and themed to match a favorite Lisbon green space, park, or garden. All the apartments are contained in the six-story building, each with its own unique style and city view.
A noble building in the tradition of the elaborately ornate Baroque, Neo-classical and Rococo styles popular before and after the city's famous earthquake, the building's grand staircase and rooms are lined with the country's famous colorful tiles, with interiors awash in cool, natural whites and warm vintage style. Each apartment features a kitchen, living room and bathroom(s), and each receives daily cleaning service and a breakfast delivery each morning.
The building's authentic features and historic character remain intact, and many vintage treasures populate the apartments, creating interiors that mix contemporary living with old-world charms.
There are six one-bedroom apartments that sleep four, with sofa beds.
On the first upstairs level are Fronteira (two street views, original 19th-century tiles) and Alorna (patio-facing, original tiles and wood floors, modern kitchen).
On the second European floor (3rd US) are Estrela (corner apartment, mid-century vibe, refurbished garden furniture) and Jerónimos (overlooking Rua da Conceição, sleek kitchen with Josef Frank wallpaper).
Further upstairs are Universidade (overlooking lively Rua da Conceição, contemporary photos and ceramic art) and Gulbenkian (large living room with small balcony with tiled rooftop views).
There are five two-bedroom apartments for up to six guests, with sofa beds.
On the first upstairs floor is Belém (two balconies, open-plan kitchen, private patio, one double, one convertible bunk room).
On the third floor are Necessidades, which is ideal for families (original wood windows, one double and one convertible bunk, notable wallpaper, large living area), and Ajuda (corner apartment, molded ceilings, restored industrial furnishings, one double, one convertible bunk).
And on the fourth floor, Eduardo VII (open-plan living/kitchen overlooking Rua da Fanqueiros, tiled balcony with seating, one double and one convertible bunk), and Campo Grande (long street-facing and corner balcony, original 18th-century wood shutters, old handpainted floral panel in bedroom, one convertible bunk).
Finally, two top-floor apartments feature three bedrooms.
Principe Real, for up to five, is nested under the old attic's mansard roof (exposed timbers, dormer windows, wood floors, artful wallpaper, small kitchenette off living area, two double bedrooms w/balcony at back, one street-facing single bedroom under the eaves), and Ultramar, for up to seven, also nestled in the attic (visible beams, skylights, one single and two double bedrooms, one with ensuite bath, galley kitchen).
Additional features
Concierge services, daily breakfast delivered, daily housekeeping included with optional laundry service and facilities. Wifi throughout, cable TV with DVD player, iPhone sound system. Optional child care with baby cots and high chairs available on request free of charge.
Around
Located in the heart of downtown Lisbon in the Baixa neighborhood next to the bustling city center, this property is walking distance to Rossio Square, Bairro Alto, Alfama, Chiado and St. George's Castle. Metro station Terreiro do Paço is down the block and will take you throughout Lisbon and beyond.
Lisbon takes contemporary design seriously and boasts Pritzker prize winning works from Alvaro Siza Vieira (Expo 98) as well as great street art and contemporary installations throughout the city.
Gustav Eiffel’s apprentice Raul Mesnier designed and built the neo-Gothic Elevador de Santa Justa where you’ll get the same kind of sweeping city views as its cousin in Paris. The old tram system is great for navigating the ornate cobblestone streets that twist through town and up and down the seven hills. Follow the unmistakable tunes into any Casa de Fado and be treated to the haunting and emotional voice of Portugal.
Not for the week at heart, Lisbon’s nightlife is epic and goes all night. Barrio Alto and the riverfront neighborhood of Cais do Sodre are the hotspots. If you’re still upright, watch the sun rise and wait for the local cafes to open for a traditional bifana (pork bun) or the famous egg tarts (pasteis de nata).
The Atlantic coast embodies the spirit of Portuguese traditions and culture along with great seafood and white sandy stretches of beach on which to enjoy it. The best of the city by the sea.
