A Breezy Seaside Studio with Retro Charm
We like the vibrant colors, textures and luxe mid-century-inspired detail in this vacation home rental in Cornwall. Close enough to the St. Ives shores to hear the waves, it packs a lot of unique and exotic inspiration into a charming space for two.
Situated in Downalong, in the heart of the St Ives, this vacation home rental in Cornwall is just minutes from the picturesque town’s restaurants, art galleries and famous Porthgwidden Beach.
Designed by a couple from the global hotel industry who eventually settled into Cornish life, the studio is one of several properties they've created with a unique take on the quaint coastal region. The ground-floor apartment is configured on one level with open-plan living spaces that make great use of the compact layout.
Inspired by the couple's fondness for mid-century design, the interiors are decorated with bespoke vintage detailing and colorful green accents that mimic the property's exotic gardens.
Illuminated by large picture windows with white walls, parquet floors and exposed brick, the living room and kitchen share the primary space with a sunny dining atrium that overlooks the lush gardens with the double bedroom and revamped bath at the back.
The original mid-century furniture – re-upholstered 70s style chairs, pebble tables by Lucian Ercolani and Eero Saarinen dining table, are accompanied by artwork from local St Ives artists and fabrics by Designers Guild, Voyage and Romo.
Combining a breezy seaside vibe with retro charm, this is a spirited little hideaway in Cornwall.

AROUND
St Ives is one of Cornwall’s most popular and best-known holiday destinations. An old (but still functioning) fishing town with tiny cobbled streets, St Ives is also known for its excellent beaches, with golden sands, blue waters and great views. The town has many great cafés and restaurants, but is most famous for its many art galleries, workshops and studios. Don’t miss Tate St Ives, the Barbara Hepworth Museum, Bernard Leach Pottery, St Ives Art School, and the many other art and cultural centers.
Each year, the St Ives September Festival celebrates the town’s artistic heritage. It runs through the middle two weeks of September with jazz, blues, folk sessions, classical concerts and arts events. There are also gallery open days when local artists open their studios to the public, as well as talks, lectures, poetry readings and workshops.
