A Slow-Living Beachfront Beauty on a Lesser-Traveled Zakynthos Coastline
A rustic-minimalist, two-bedroom villa by DM Architecture+Design, this low-key beach house puts the sea at your doorstep and the island sands mere steps away. Plus there’s a concierge service to assist with excursions around the isle, as well as on-site cooking, shopping and tastings, as desired.
Set on a small, practically private beach, the property is crossed by garden paths and offers multiple chill-out areas for no-fuss, seaside living. Minimalist, elegant double bedrooms have their own baths, and one room has a sofa for overflow sleeping, ideal for a child. Décor is rustic minimal, with all natural paints and a focus on raw materials including wood, marble, stone and iron, in an earth-toned palette.
Created for disconnection from the ordinary and beachfront immersion, the elemental villa’s outdoor areas feature an outdoor kitchen and delicious poolside bar, striped chaises with beach-club vibes, an outdoor shower, and two outdoor dining areas (one in an olive tree quad, the other shaded and near the indoor kitchen). The outdoor living room is plush and panoramic, with the sea lapping in at (nearly) arm’s reach.
Around
Located on the eastern part of Zakynthos Island, the villa has three different beach options walking distance from the bedroom doors, ensuring you’ll pack light, if swimsuit heavy. One is right out front, Ammoudi Beach is 100 meters to the left, and Psarou Beach is only 300 meters to the right. Local beaches are sheltered from the south winds, so they offer calm waters, not to mention that the sands see fewer travelers. Most tend to congregate on the southern part of the island near Zakynthos Town, Tragaki, and Tsilivi, which are all less than 20 kilometers away, but a world apart. Zante is a prime location for slow, leisurely living, a coastline still undiscovered, blessed with natural beauty of wind-blown coastal cypress and pines and olive-lined country roads.
Visits to the island’s best-known attractions can be arranged as curated experiences or visited independently. There’s Shipwreck Beach, a stunning turquoise bay named for a 1982 shipwreck reached only by sea. The Blue Caves are also seen from the water—natural formations known for their azure, light blue waters and the interplay of sunlight and shadow. Others include the Laganas Marathonisi area, Laganas an animated bay with beaches and cute coastal villages, and Marthonisi an islet that’s home to Caretta caretta turtles and stunning coves.
Zakynthos Town, the island’s capital, is alive with dining, nightlife and boutique shopping options. Its charming historical squares and monuments are worth wandering, especially the Venetian Castle area, Bochali Old Town, and the colorful port area. Watersport lovers can water/jet ski, parasail, canoe/kayak, snorkel, scuba dive, or sail, and landlubbers will discover mountainous countryside inland, perfect for hiking, horseback riding, and cycling.
