Architectural Holiday Home with Waterfront View Pool on Mallorca’s Rugged Coast
On the powder white, rock-lined southeastern coast of Mallorca, this five-hectare holiday estate rental designed inside and out by architect Alberto Lievore blends harmoniously into its Mediterranean landscape. The two monumental stone cubes occupy a rugged promontory that extends out over Porto Petro’s historical harbor, and offer direct access to the sea.
An Architect-Designed Holiday House and Guest House with Pool on Mallorca’s Rugged Coast
From their sturdy exterior stone walls to their golden-hued lighting and sleek, minimalist interiors, this waterfront duo on Mallorca showcases the architectural vision and contemporary handiwork of Albert Lievore. A designer estate in two parts with private access to the sea, the property is made up of two cubic, stone buildings.
A main house and guest house, the bleached stone villas are anchored by a central olive tree, shaded by dense mulberries, and flanked by a 25-meter-long heated pool that runs parallel to the coast.
The holiday rental pair spans a quiet promontory that offers views onto the small town of Porto Petro’s harbor. Created for living in the abundant island sunshine, both generous stone structures are vivid and spare, angular architectural havens of white, furnished simply and comfortably, and cut through with geometric slashes of light via generous rectilinear windows and doors. Lievore conceived of all the furnishings and lighting as well, except for the dining room chairs!
The main house features a sleek, spacious living and dining area with a passage to the kitchen and a panty, a primary bedroom with an ensuite bath, and a study furnished with a large single bed. At the rear of the home, a single room for domestic help or a nanny also has a private bath.
The guest house offers three double bedrooms, two bathrooms and an open-plan living dining area with a full kitchen. All of the bedrooms open to the enclosed stone terrace. Outdoor spaces include a grill area and prep kitchen, lounge chairs plus a shaded alfresco dining table with views of the harbor.
Additional Information: Please note that the cleaning and energy fees are billable by the week and will be adjusted by the host at the time of the quote.
Around
A small fishing village on Mallorca’s rocky southeastern coast, Porto Petro’s beaches are of the finest white sand, and its waters are turquoise blue. With only 500-or-so residents, the town is best known for its harbor and small marina backed by traditional, low-slung fishermen’s homes with their tiled roofs and bright shutters. Along the waterfront, family-run cafes and seafood restaurants overlook the colorful boats, and the town offers two sandy beaches in bays on either side. Porto Petro’s harbor is home to the Real Club Nàutic de Portopetro, though it was originally a trading port dating from the 15th century, shipping out local stone and importing wheat. At the end of the 19th century, the town transformed into a fishing port.
An authentic community of locals (unlike the island’s more heavily touristed towns), Porto Petro is a great base for exploring the coastline, as some of the island’s prettiest sheltered coves are walking distance or a short drive away. Cala Barca, S’Amarador Beach and Cala Mondrago are all reachable on foot or by car, with protected Cala Mondrago famed for its rolling dunes, pine forest and rugged rocky coves. Mondrago Natural Park also features hiking and cycling trails Guided boat trips depart Porto Petro to visit Cala Mondrago and Cala Figuera by sea, and there are also boat trips for snorkeling, sunset dinner cruises, and even yachting to the popular nearby resort of Cala d’Or, with its half-dozen beaches, festive mix of bars, cafes, restaurants and night clubs, and its boutique-lined streets. The Cala d’Or Yacht Club’s quays, home to over 600 luxury moorings and plenty of glittering, complementary amenities, are worth a wander through.
