Acclaimed Architecture on Trancoso’s Historic Quadrado
The first Brazilian home to land on the cover of Architectural Digest in the US, Casa Anderson was built by native craftsmen and stands as one of South America’s most acclaimed private residences. The three-bedroom villa, named for its highly regarded owner, journalist Anderson Cooper, stands just in front of Trancoso’s 16th-century church in a tropical garden with a spectacular rainforest lounge.
Between the Historic Quadrado and Lush Rainforest
Set in a lush garden of mature fruit trees and fragrant tropical flowers, this multi-structure villa extends between Trancoso’s historic, UNESCO-designated Quadrado and the Atlantic rainforest, made up of a combination of four, traditionally inspired structures anchored by a pool and outdoor rainforest leisure zone. The lush tropical outdoor living area features its own bar and kitchen, a vast living room and a pool stretching into the rainforest, all watched over by exotic birds, leafy jungle, and resident monkeys.
Structure one, defined by its colonial façade, looks out onto Trancoso’s quadrado and houses the elegant living/dining area and kitchen. Its generous veranda is a showplace, and furnishings here and in the bedroom suites include bespoke UXUA D.A.S. pieces created from reclaimed fishing boats and farm equipment. Local Pataxó crafts and an infusion of organic items like river reeds and palm fiber are dressed up by artwork from Brazilian and international artists.
The first guest suite occupies an independent, weathered brick bungalow. The second suite features sculpted, pau a pique earthen walls and a custom Shape-Shifter bed from the UXUA D.A.S. collection. And the third suite is the site's showstopper, a soaring, reclaimed hardwood treehouse suspended above the outdoor living room.
Additional features
A substantial Bahian breakfast is prepared daily, and daily housekeeping is included along with concierge service and a reserved sofa at UXUA Praia Bar Beachfront Lounge. Access to UXUA’s spa, gym, and sauna is included with booked appointments.
Extras include a cook or private chef, massage treatments, yoga and pilates sessions, and babysitting service.
Around
Located just in front of Trancoso’s 16th-century São João Batista Church, this rainforest garden villa and pool are tucked between the village and the lush Atlantic jungle. The charmingly rustic town of Trancoso, once a laid-back hippie destination, has grown up, its cobblestoned streets and candy-colored houses now a world-class destination. The town boasts eight beaches covering 24 sandy kilometers under chalky cliffs and along Atlantic mangroves and jungle.
The Barra do Rio Trancoso Beach is the smallest and closest to the Quadrado, surrounded by mangroves and home to the UXUA Praia Bar. Rio da Barra Beach spreads from the juncture of the Atlantic and the Barra River, loved by sunbathers and explorers who canoe its river waters. Nativos is the beach to see and be seen at, a three-kilometer stretch with mangroves, coconut palms and coral reefs that’s also home to hip bars and kite and wind surfing outfitters.
Coqueiros Beach is also a sporting paradise, a 400-meter sand where soccer, strand tennis and beach volleyball are played near tidal pools and colorful coral reefs offshore. Rio Verde Beach features a shallow lagoon and lush vegetation and is bordered by a river. It's a favorite of hikers and walkers who can wander through the lush flora beyond the sand. Ponta de Itapororca Beach is relatively secluded beach, popular with beach joggers and walkers. Finally Patimirim and Itaquena Beaches round out Trancoso’s beach offerings, Patimirim a deserted, wildflower strewn sand and Itaquena the “it beach” of surfers who come for big waves.
