Simple Luxuries: An Exclusive Puglian Trulli Experience
A group of luxuriously updated dry stone-stacked trulli, this villa for rent in Italy combines ancient tradition with cool, pared down modern styling that screams personal comfort and easy sophistication. Showcasing whitewashed interior walls and tidy flagstone floors, these adorable, cone-roofed structures soothe with their unpretentious luxury and entertain via on-site offerings, from culinary courses to yoga sessions to guided strolls in the sundrenched countryside.
It is often said that simplicity is the ultimate sophistication, and this grouping of ancient Puglian agricultural structures fits the adage. Vaulted stone ceilings and arched doorways and interior nichos curve over charmed spaces. These include an Italian country kitchen full of professional appliances, a cozy living room with mid-century era furniture and local artworks, plus the complex’s four bedrooms made up in crisp white linens, with soft lighting and arched doors opening out onto the terrace.
Converted trulli homes are iconic to the region and celebrated as UNESCO World Heritage treasures, and this complex sets itself apart through its embrace of simple luxuries. Made entirely of local materials, the property offers views onto the surrounding estate of centenary olive trees and the Valle d’Itria’s rolling hills. The property’s owners have placed a premium on outdoor living, and stone-paved terraces surround the trulli. There’s also a spacious, lantern-accented swimming pool and deck with shaded, chaise-lined pergolas, several spots with built-in, cushion-lined seating benches and easy outdoor armchairs, and a vine-covered outdoor dining patio.
Tailor-made creative experiences are part of the stay here, and a signature element of the owners’ wider collection of fine properties. Designed for those who seek travel that roots them in the culture of the destination, Puglia’s heritage and lifestyle is brought to life at Casa Badra through personalized opportunities to make mouth-watering pasta, wander the still-active olive plantations or visit the area by bicycle.

AROUND
This villa for rent in Italy is located in the countryside only four kilometers from the UNESCO World Heritage site of Alberobello, where over 1,000 trulli structures are protected. Other villages of note a quick drive away include Cisternino, Ostuni or the magical “white village", and Locorotundo, surrounded by vineyards where its namesake local wine is made.
The Itria Valley occupies southern Italy’s boot heel and is close to both the Adriatic and Mediterranean seas. The region’s sought-after trulli were once agricultural storerooms, and they rise in every direction from the stony hills. Dating from prehistoric times, the structures display well-preserved examples of ancient dry stone, or mortarless, construction.
Another nearby UNESCO Heritage site is the troglodyte village of Matera. Restaurants, cafes, bars and tasting rooms join markets, shops and artisanal boutiques and galleries throughout the region. Half a dozen beaches with turquoise Adriatic waters are further afield as are charming coastal villages such as Polignano a mari and Monopoli.
