An Art-Filled Oasis in the Apulian Countryside
Five minutes from the striking white village of Ostuni and a quick 20-minute drive to the beach, this contemporary, two-bedroom villa stands pretty and bright in a garden and outdoor space designed by Studio PAZ.
Its whitewashed walls brightened by art and design pieces, the modern property’s styling is true to the regional aesthetic—a crisp, bright haven created for tranquil living with views of Ostuni and out to sea. Artworks by emerging artists and local craftspeople accent the interiors, along with items brought home from travels to Morocco and Scandinavia.
Layout
The villa’s modern kitchen offers panoramic cooking with an adjacent living area warmed by a wood-burning stove. The villa’s two bedrooms are en suite, each with a walk-in shower, one opening to the poolside, the other with views to the sea.
Around
Five minutes from Ostuni, this garden villa is ideally placed for exploring the enchanting Valle d’Itria. The white city of Ostuni sits high above the olive groves of the lower Murgia and has been described as a pearly white tiara that extends across three hills, with a Gothic cathedral as centerpiece. The city’s whitewashed center is filled with boutiques, cafes, restaurants and markets, the perfect spot to pick up ingredients to prepare back at the villa’s kitchen.
Puglia is the region occupying Italy’s boot heel, and the region offers beach life (20 minutes) with both sand and pebbly crescents along the Costa Merlata. There’s abundant sightseeing in scenic, UNESCO-designated and otherwise historical villages, including Ceglie Messapica, Cisternino, Alberobello, Martina Franca, Locorotondo and Grottaglie. Naturalists love the Torre Guaceto reserve and the Grotte di Castellana karst cave system. Other coastal must-sees include the old town of Polignano a Mare with its breathtaking cliffside Adriatic views, the charming little fishing harbor of Savelletri on the Adriatic coast (45 minutes to 1 hour), and the Ionian Sea coast and its beach-club-dotted sands (about an hour’s drive). And don’t forget to sample the region’s famous olive oils, wines, and fresh, homespun meals at simple family-run restaurants and cafes.
