A Nature-Inspired Gem on Mexico's Pacific Coast
This remarkable beach house comes to us from the creative minds behind Fundación Casa Wabi. Designed by its founder, Mexican artist Bosco Sodi, and decorated by Década Muebles, it's hidden in the beaches of Puerto Escondido on the Pacific coast of Oaxaca. Surrounded in nature and overlooking the blue waters of the ocean, it was conceived as a place to open your heart and mind, and to let go into the embrace of nature.
Like all of the foundation's other homes, Casa Cons was built to have a direct relationship with the landscape around it and to tread gently on the environment. Using local materials first and foremost, it's a combination of warm bricks baked by the sun and cool concrete underfoot. There are two distinct structures that blend inside and outside living, with a covered terrace that opens onto a pool, that in turn opens onto the beachfront.
Interiors are filled with sculptural wooden furnishings, including a table carved from an ancient hollowed tree trunk, and other details that include a delightful green-tiled kitchen floor and pops of azure-blue textiles. This villa for rent in Mexico has four bedrooms, with different configurations, sleeping a total of 14 guests.
Casa Cons is part of Fundación Casa Wabi, which was created in 2014 by Bosco Sodi. The concept behind all the foundation does comes from the Japanese idea of wabi-sabi, the acceptance of transcience and imperfection. Casa Wabi, their flagship residence, was designed by Pritzker-winning Tadao Ando and a collective of renowned architects as a space for creative interaction, where residents and local communities come together. We invite you to explore all homes from Fundación Casa Wabi here, and to read more about the foundation in our Stories section here.
AROUND
Located along a remote stretch of Pacific coast, the port town of Puerto Escondido lies at the end of the Sierra Madre del Sur mountain range, just over 100 miles from the inland capital of Oaxaca. Arranged around a picturesque bay dotted with gigantic rock formations, the area is divided between Bacocho Beach on the north end, the Playa Principal resort area in the middle, and the famous surfing beach of Zicatela on the south end. Considered one of the top 10 surfing destinations in the world, Puerto Escondido is famous for its huge waves and frequent surf competitions, and the town also comes to life at night, with parties until dawn.
Be sure to visit the wildlife and mangrove forests of Laguna de Manialtepec just 20 minutes from the house and the ecological reserve and turtle sanctuaries of Ventanilla. Watch for the bioluminescent tides at night, where you can swim in the sparkling waters.
