A Sculptural, Organic Sanctuary in North Miami
Casa Kawa (which translates to "house of the river" in a blend of Spanish and Japanese) was designed as a meditative retreat, with a grounding stillness achieved through raw, natural materials and a palette of earth tones. Soft chukum plaster covers the organic, curved interior walls, creating a cocoon-like atmosphere that absorbs light and sound. Foundational pieces include a large, circular built-in sofa and a low, tatami-style dining table. The kitchen is fully equipped, and the bathroom features raw concrete, flagstone floors, and a glowing portal shower.
The home includes two bedrooms with handmade beds and two full bathrooms. Outdoor spaces include the large zen sand garden with a central fountain and raked labyrinth, as well as a small, private porch for morning rituals.
What we love
We like how this home feels like it transports you to another world, and it’s unlike anywhere else we’ve seen in Miami. The mix of soft chukum walls and that circular sofa gives every room its own unique charm. The sand garden makes the whole place feel like a special, relaxing and private retreat.
