Casa Lagilda: An Archipelago in Puglia
In the heart of Carovigno, Casa Lagilda is an architectural jewel from Studio Luca Baldazzi and has been featured in Elle Decor. The architect renovated this early 20th-century eclectic building as his personal manifesto. The style is a new Apulian vernacular, defined by an "archipelago concept" of separate rooms joined by patios. Inside, tactile plasters and Spanish tiles create a minimalist Mediterranean feel. This design-led home sleeps six guests and is centered around a green-tiled plunge pool. It's a striking piece of contemporary design, set within the historic town.
Materials are tactile and authentic. Polished cement floors meet handcrafted natural plasters and graphic Spanish tiles. A narrative thread of dusty pink—inspired by sun-faded village shutters—runs from the round metal entrance door to window frames and stairs. The living room features a green sofa and projector, while the terracotta-tiled kitchen is the home's vibrant heart.
The home’s interior and exterior spaces are equal in size, at 150 square meters each. The design flows seamlessly into a tranquil oasis of patios, terraces, and Mediterranean gardens. The centerpiece is the green-tiled plunge pool (2.5m x 4.5m), a vibrant block of color surrounded by tropical plants and a sun terrace.
What we love
We love how this home, the personal project of architect Luca Baldazzi, is designed as an "archipelago," connecting a series of independent, character-filled rooms with beautiful outdoor courtyards, terraces, and gardens. The pink accents throughout the home (door frame, door, throw pillows) mirror the color of faded red shutters of old village homes. Features that stood out to us include the tiled pool and kitchen counter and the eclectic interior choices, like the red stool.
