A Pink Jungle Refuge
Designed by the Mérida-based firm TACO (Taller de Arquitectura Contextual), this compact jungle refuge brings contemporary Mexican architecture to the wild. Completed in 2019 as a 42-square-meter hideaway, the structure hovers above the rocky soil on a raised platform. Its distinctive red-pink façade, achieved through artisanal stucco and mineral pigments, contrasts vividly with the surrounding greenery. A double-height living area creates a sense of volume despite the compact footprint, showcasing a collection of handcrafted modern pieces.
The living space spills onto a furnished terrace, effectively doubling the usable footprint. Here, a shallow plunge pool offers a respite from the Yucatán heat, and a hammock invites lazy afternoons. The property spans 10,000 square meters of terrain, planted with an orchard full of citrus fruits, mangoes, avocadoes, coconuts, and other local fruits.
Layout
The ground level houses a kitchenette, a living space with a lounge-dining corner, and a bathroom featuring a unique open-sky shower. A staircase ascends to the mezzanine, which holds one queen bedroom.
Experiences
Guests can explore the immediate surroundings using two complimentary bicycles provided by the hosts.
Good to know
Access to the mezzanine bedroom is via a staircase. The internet is via Starlink and sufficient for streaming movies. While secluded, the home is only a 10-minute drive from town. A car is recommended for getting around.
