A Poacher's Refuge Reimagined in the Beskydy Forests
This self-sufficient cabin, a modern reconstruction of a poacher’s hideout, offers a retreat from the grid deep within the quiet of the Beskydy forests.
The story of Chata Pytlorka is one of transformation, evolving from a remote poacher’s hut into an owner-designed, self-sufficient refuge. Created as a place for disconnection, it is powered by the sun and heated by fire. Its contemporary timber-clad form sits quietly in a forest clearing, respecting its pristine setting.
Inside, the space is enveloped in natural wood paneling. The ground floor living area is centered around a fireplace, with a simple, comfortable sofa and a well-equipped kitchen for communal meals. The material palette is spare and honest, complemented by functional furnishings. Entertainment is analog—a collection of board games and books invites guests to slow down and reconnect.
The cabin is set within a natural forest clearing, where the Beskydy woods become a private garden. A wooden deck hosts an outdoor hot tub, positioned for clear views across the valley, while a fire pit serves as a barbecue for evenings under the stars. From the front door, numerous hiking trails lead directly into the surrounding landscape, integrating the home completely with its environment.
Layout
The social heart is the open-plan ground floor, combining kitchen, dining, and living functions that flow onto the terrace. This level includes a bathroom with a shower. A staircase leads to the upper floor, which has two private double bedrooms. An open mezzanine area serves as a children's play corner and features a large built-in bed with two mattresses that sleeps two to four additional guests.
