A Land of Rolling Hills and Golden Stone
The Cotswolds are known as one of the most picturesque regions in the UK. With buildings crafted from golden stone, rolling hills (or "wolds"), lively market towns, stately homes, gastro pubs, and 3,000 miles of footpaths, this is quintessential England. And this lovely stone cottage, built in the late 1800s and recently refurbished, is perfectly located to make the most of it.
Once home to coal merchants, as its name suggests, the cottage contains centuries of character and period pieces, but has been elevated above its lowly roots. We love its mix of wooden, stone and tiled floors, stone and brick walls, with elegantly simple design and personal touches. The narrow staircase concealed behind a wall of timber beams and brickwork is a delightful find.
The cottage has been converted into a large and comfortable space full of modern conveniences. There is a living room with a log burner, plus a separate cinema room. The kitchen has been fully refurbished, with a beautiful polished stone floor, central island, skylight, and large windows that open onto the large pebbled patio and lawn. With fast wifi, a private office and even dry-erase boards, this vacation home for rent in England is also perfect for remote working.
The cottage has three bedrooms, with one king and two double beds, each of which has an Emma mattress. There is off-road parking for one car, a electric car charger, plus a large private garden with a barbecue and a trampoline. This vacation home for rent in England sleeps up to six guests.
AROUND
The house is located in the Cotswolds, about two hours' drive west of central London. The village of Andoversford lies about five miles east of Cheltenham, on the River Coln, surrounded in hills and sheep. It has a great local pub, and is close to other lovely villages like Bibury, Bourton on the Water, and Slaughters. It's about 25 miles from the Diddly Squat Farm Shop, a small barn in Chipping Norton that was opened in 2020 by TV personality Jeremy Clarkson.
Well located for shopping, races and the Cheltenham Literature, Jazz and Science Festivals, the cottage is also ideal for staying over after weddings at the popular local wedding venues, the Frogmill and Upcote Barn.
Public transport is limited in Andoversford, and the owners recommend having a car to explore the surrounding area. However, there are buses near the house that run to Cheltenham and the other surrounding villages. Taxis to Cheltenham Spa take about 20 minutes and cost £15-20.
