Treading Lightly in Tasmania
Tasmania’s wildness is one of its most appealing and enduring features, with unspoiled wilderness and scenic vistas everywhere. Local architect Stephen Geason has managed to capture and highlight this untamed beauty while crafting a stylish, eco-modern holiday rental. We love the simplicity, the craftsmanship and the dramatic way this subtle structure inhabits the magnificent landscape.

Local architect Stephen Geason has managed to capture and highlight this untamed beauty while crafting a stylish, eco-modern holiday rental. We love the simplicity, the craftsmanship and the dramatic way this subtle structure inhabits the magnificent landscape.
Designed by local architect Stephen Geason of Cykel Architecture, this holiday rental in Tasmania is set within 200 acres of secluded forest, surrounded by the world renowned Freycinet National Park.
Overlooking Moulting Lagoon Conservation Area and the pristine Friendly Beaches, the house is in the heart of one of Australia's most iconic landscapes.
Clad in locally sourced timber with strong angular lines, the pavilion style silhouette creates separate open plan living spaces with relaxing areas of repose and lots of natural light from floor to ceiling windows. The sitting room with a fireplace shares the space with a dining area off of the fully equipped kitchen with terraces all around. The two double bedrooms also feature spectacular views of the surrounding forest and distant views of the lagoon with room for four guests.
Much of the furnishings and fine art were hand crafted by local artisans and at times, are rotated with a broader collection with a compendium provided for guests to learn more about them.
Designed to be self sufficient and eco-friendly, the house harvests its own water supply and the electrical power is off grid solar (with a generator back up of course).
Keep an eye out for the local wallabies, wombats and other delicate flora and fauna and get ready for a unique and stylish holiday experience.
ADDITIONAL FEATURES
Welcome basket with a range of tea and coffee to enjoy and breakfast of roasted Australian macadamia muesli is provided as well as a range of Tasmanian East Coast wines available at cellar door prices. Wifi throughout. Optional in home Yoga, Reiki, spa and massage services available.
AROUND
Conveniently located along the "Great Eastern Drive" on the Freycinet Peninsula, the house is between Coles Bay and Bicheno at Friendly Beaches. The wild and untamed coastal region is all about nature, with excellent oppportunities to get away from the crowds, enjoy the extensive beaches and coastline and take in the vast expanses of protected forests.
It is a short drive to Wineglass Bay hiking trail, Cape Tourville Lighthouse and the many East Coast Vineyards.
LOCATION
Friendly Beaches, Tasmania. Nearest Airport: Hobart Airport (It’s a very scenic two hour drive)
BEST TIME TO VISIT: December and January are high season and many people visit from October through February. February tends to quiet down and is an ideal time. Winter months aren't for swimming at the nearby beaches but the air is crisp and clear and local hiking trails are not busy. The very popular Wineglass Bay hiking trail is a fantastic winter walk. The house also has a cozy fireplace for winter months.
